Jo Redman's Kickboxing Competitions 2014

My name is Jo Redman, I am a three times WKC Kickboxing World Champion, winning my titles in 2011, 2012 and 2013. I have a dual diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD and as an amateur competitor have to self fund my training and competitive costs. This is expensive for just myself but due to my disability I need a carer to support and accompany to international competitions. I am unable to travel alone, I need to travel with somebody who has full understanding of my challenges and how they present and this significantly raises the cost by doubling them.


I am 28 years old and at the top of my sport, I want the opportunity to compete this year in the WKC World Championships for my fourth world title and next year's Irish Open. I have been awarded two Northamptonshire Sports Awards and also a Martial Arts Illustrated Hall of Fame Award.


In 2013 I was made a patron for autism charity Anna Kennedy Online and was given the opportunity to speak at an event at the House of Commons and also at Autism's Got Talent about my journey to achievement within my sport. I want to carry on my success so that I am able to continue to demonstrate that people with Asperger's and ADHD can achieve when given support. It is hard to win one world title, winning three is harder, winning three with a disability that impacts heavily on your life is very tough but I still give my time and try to help other people with conditions like mine in a range of ways.
