This is Samantha Sirbos and she is 7 years old. Samantha has endured more in her 7 years than most people will in a lifetime. She is strong and she is a fighter. When Samantha was only 3 years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia. At 5 years old, she was a cancer survivor. Unfortunately, Samantha relapsed this past September and the Leukemia has returned. For the past 4 months, Samantha has been undergoing rigorous chemotherapy treatments at Sick Kids hospital in Toronto and the Sirbos family has recently learned that she requires a bone marrow transplant.
The Sirbos family needs our help. Samantha's parents, Chris and Maria, along with Samantha's little sister Ava were devastated when they learned that the Leukemia had returned and they've been at her bedside since September. As if the diagnosis of Leukemia wasn't bad enough, Chris, Maria and Ava have recently learned that neither of them are suitable matches for a bone marrow transplant.
The Sirbos family faces a long ordeal in the upcoming year and they need support...especially financial support! Chris Sirbos, Samantha's father, is a proud Toronto Police Officer and has only worked a few days in the last 4 months. Chris is the sole income earner as Maria has not worked since Samantha first faced leukemia at 3 years of age. Having a child diagnosed with cancer is an unimaginable ordeal for any family, and adding any challenges on top of it can seem overwhelming. In order to be close to Samantha, the Sirbos family has been forced to lease living space near Sick Kids Hospital which costs thousands of dollars per month. Ava, Samantha's proud little sister, started junior kindergarten in September but had to withdraw from school due to Samantha's diagnosis. Chris and Maria are evaluating other educational options for Ava which are costly. The above mentioned costs, along with the day to day incidental costs have had a significant financial impact on the Sirbos family.
