I am amazed at the way so many people have come together in support of Joseph and his family, including those who have never met them, but were compelled to help in this time of need. Please continue to pray that Joseph will keep making improvements and share this story with everyone you know to help offset the cost of his medical bills.
Please pray that Joseph will be able to breathe more easily and be returned to a private room out of ICU. Also, that the swelling in his brain will decrease so that doctors can perform the surgery to replace the part of his skull that was removed.
Joseph is making amazing progress! He even tried to smile at me! His heart rate is a bit elevated so he will most likely stay in ICU until tomorrow. The therapist came by his room and went over his therapy regimen that will hopefully begin tomorrow. Please continue praying for more improvements!
Joseph is finally here! He will spend the next 24 hours in ICU so that the doctors can run tests to determine his exact condition. The therapist has already come by to see him though and due to positive results, he will begin therapy tomorrow!
Joseph is coming to Texas today! The bed at Baylor is ready and the air ambulance will be departing for Honduras soon. Please keep Joseph and the flight crew in your prayers as they make this journey!
A bed has opened up for Joseph at Baylor Medical Center! I spoke with his brother and they are still lacking about $5000 to cover the cost of the air ambulance to get him to Texas. As soon as the money is secured, the plane will take off so hopefully, Joseph will be transported early tomorrow morning. All of the prayers and donations for Joseph's safety are greatly appreciated!
The tracheotomy performed on Joseph yesterday has caused damage to his brain. He needs to be transported to the US immediately via air ambulance. Please help the family get him here as soon as possible. Prayers for his safety are needed! If you know anyone in the medical community who has ties to a hospital that can care for Joseph, please contact this brother, David, immediately.
More positive news! Joseph's mom asked him to give her a sign that he could hear her and he squeezed her hand! They have spent the last day unhooking the machines with the exception of the one helping him breathe. Soon, the doctor's are going to do a procedure that will allow him to breathe easier on his own and the last machine will be unhooked. He will then be moved out of the ICU and into a recovery room. Donations are still needed to send to the hospital in Honduras for Joseph's hospital stay so please keep sharing!
Update via Sarah Paulick:
Joe is coming out of the coma slowly now. His mother said he opened his eyes earlier today. I will go back to the hospital tomorrow and hopefully have more good news to share with you all.
Joe está saliendo del coma despacio. Su madre dijo que él abrió los ojos el día de hoy. Me voy a regresar al hospital mañana y espero tener más buenas noticias para compartir con todos ustedes.
The doctors have decided it will be best for Joseph to stay in the hospital an additional day. He will then be transported to Texas on Thursday if the funds can be secured. While many of us will be spending Christmas with our family and friends, a loving family is looking forward to bringing their son back home so that he may start the long journey towards recovery. Please continue your prayers, well wishes, shares, and donations!
We have already blown past the original goal of $5000, but we need to keep sharing so we can get Joseph home tomorrow!
On Wednesday, the plan is to fly him back to Texas if the brain scan goes well tomorrow. However, the flight is going to cost $25,000 due to the medical personnel and care needed for his safety. Please help his family be reunited with him on Christmas!
UPDATE via Scarleth Nance:
The swelling in Joe French's brain has gone down from 17% to 4%. His lungs are now all clear. Thank you guys for all of your prayers, but don't stop praying now, he (and the family) still needs our prayers for a full recovery and hopefully transport back to Texas.
We are almost halfway there, but it is only a small part of the medical expenses the family will need after today. Keep giving and sharing Joseph's story!
On December 20, our very dear friend Joseph French was shot four times, with bullets lodged in his skull and midsection, by robbers trying to steal his cell phone in Honduras. He was walking home from a Christmas party at the high school where he teaches English. Donations have been used to transport Joseph to Baylor Medical Center, but now money is needed to help offset the growing medical bills. He is currently in ICU because he is having difficulty breathing. Prayers are needed so that the swelling in his brain will decrease and doctors are able to replace the part of his skull that was removed. Joseph has a positive impact on everyone and everything he meets so it is our turn to give back to him! He makes this world a better place! We have started this page to raise money for medical expenses and anything his family may need during his recovery. Please share this page with all of your friends and family!
