A Home for a Homeless Atlanta Family
Donation protected
Please help! My family and I bumped into a young homeless family of six (a
couple with four children including a small baby) who had just been thrown out
of their home and into the street for not making their rent this month. We helped them to secure a place in a hotel for a short time, but they really need $2,000 to give them enough to cover
two months' rent in down town Atlanta (including bills and food) while they wait for their disability benefits
to come through. However, any amount of money raised would be extremely helpful. There is a lot of talk of there being systems of support like
welfare for people here, but the truth is that when you're down,
there are shockingly few options and programs out there to help you get back on
your feet again. This information comes to us from a source who works directly with
the homeless here in Atlanta. Most of the homeless in Atlanta are children and some homeless adults even have jobs. This family had
resorted to asking their fellow human beings for help and was being ignored by
most. This is simply unacceptable and unconscionable. When the number of foreclosed homes outnumbers the homeless in the US by
several times, is it really okay with us to live with this state of
things, just because most of us have homes to go to? It is true that most people
would like to help the homeless in some way, but feel helpless to do so or don't know where to start.
It doesn't matter where you start, just do whatever you can from where you are
with what you know and what you have. What you need to do may land in your lap (like it did with this
homeless family). It is our
choice and our responsibility. WE are the system, whether we work in government or not, so let's make
it work. Please donate what you can and as soon as possible. Your help would
make an incredible difference to this family. Thank you so much.
