My name is Dominique I am 22 years old.
Invisible disabilities affect thousands of us every day.
Alot of times pride gets in the way of us speaking up and letting our stories be known. Here is my story, I hope it inspires you to change yourself, so we can change the world into a place where asking for help doesn't have to be so shameful and where pain and suffering isnt measured on a scale.
I was born December 11th 1990 1lb 8oz 12 inches, addicted to Crack, PCP and Heroin. I was given 24 hours to live and my mother left me in the hospital for her next drug fix. I do not have my medical records from when I was a baby so any pre existing conditions I had been diagnosed with were lost. I have been on a life long journey to save my health and myself. As a child I was so sick that over the course of 15 years I received over 16,000 mgs of antibiotic not including all the steroid inhalants for chronic bronchitis and asthma. Those medications ruined my stomach, my health and my happiness.
Premature babies, especially drug addicted pre term babies, are medical experiments. Doctors do not know the effects of prematurity into adulthood and it varies extensively from child to child.
I have never been able to run like a normal child or enjoy physical activity. My adoptive family never followed up medically on alot of my complaints. In the past two years upon following up on my health myself, I have been diagnosed with Complex PTSD, obstructive sleep apnea, Aspergers, Attachment Disorder, Fibromyalgia, orthostatic hypotention, dysautonomia, disc degenerative disease in all three parts of my back, and i am currently seeing a neurologist for a cerebral palsy diagnosis, a gait problem and daily hip pain when walking. I also am in the process of diagnosing an auto immune disease. This past year alone I have been hospitalized 5 times for heart related problems.
(update: 11/13/2013- I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia which means I have really high prolactin levels..I have to have an emergency mri to rule out a pituitary tumor..and as of right now I cannot have children =(....ill keep you posted on what happens)
I have been told countless times since I am a child to act normal. What is normal? After countless cardiologists, electrophysiologists, internal medicine doctors etc I decided to treat all of my ailments with a raw plant based diet instead of western medicine. Every week I buy raw fruits and veggies and I juice as treatment. This is a long road, but I know I cant do it on my own. I currently have no family to help me financially. I no longer speak to my adoptive parents, I had to drop out of school and have not worked since these symptoms began chronically two years ago.
If you could help me on my road to wellness a comment, five cents a dollar anything to help me eat and not force me to work in such a terrible state it would be wonderful.Im am in the process of alot of tests to diagnose exactly what is wrong with me. My part time job as a nanny isnt enough to cover all my medical expenses.
I am an aspiring raw low fat 80/10/10 chef
also I am in the process of writing a book about my life and journey
concentrating on drug addicted babies, adoptees, the importance of breast feeding and nutrition and just life and relationships in generalI have a dream of making a documentary about nutrition and prematurity within the next year also, touring schools to make an example out of myself.
