Help the Lake LA Porch Puppies and Mom!

Tax deductible
THE LAKE LA PORCH PUP FAMILY NEEDS YOUR HELP.

The story:

On October 23, I got together with Kyle Young of Animal Transport and Rescue to rescue 5 puppies and their mom (who we had to trap) who had been living under the porch of an abandoned building in Lake Los Angeles, CA. (I had started leaving food and water out for them a couple weeks earlier when I first discovered they were there.)

Mom and her pups are now much more comfortable being temporarily fostered at my house, but it's very important that they are all adopted out ASAP into loving, permanent homes. I am working with a number of animal-helping volunteers and organizations in the area to do just that, but we need help with some basic expenses in order to get these sweet and beautiful pups medically squared away and primed for adoption.

I have already spent over $150 of my own money on food and dewormer for them, and have been and will be working several hours every day taking care of them, socializing and weaning the pups, and making adoption videos and the like for social media.

That's the part I can do--and not much more, frankly. Kyle Young and Ann at Rainbow Rescue and Tammy and Angel in town who has puppy food, and several other unsung heroes are stepping up to help where they can, and to find and screen potential adoptive families for the pups.

That's our part. Your part, hopefully, is kicking in a few bucks to get these beautiful rescued pups (and their mom and dad*):

--a vet visit
--shots
--microchips
--spayed/neutered
--other health-related costs if need be
--additional food if need be

We're still making the connections to get these solutions in place, so we don't have exact costs yet, but you've probably been to the vet yourself. We need to get 7 dogs squared away. It could easily be a few hundred dollars right off the bat, assuming there are no big surprises. (We will likely get "rescue discounts" at most places along the way, but even still...times seven.)

I've set our minimum goal at $500...though if additional care is needed for mom or any of the pups, costs could rise much higher. Ann from Rainbow estimates that costs could easily reach $1000 or $1500 if there is a serious medical issue that needs to be dealt with. (Again, if you've been to the vet, you know how it can go.) So the more help we get, the better.

All funds will be administered/overseen by Ann Walters from Rainbow Rescue (http://www.rainbowrescuepets.com/), an approved IRS (501) (c) 3 Non-profit Charity and a state and county-approved adoption partner. She has been a great help throughout this process, and has connected me with all the people and resources that have helped so far. (Including the absolutely vital help of Kyle Young, without whom I would not have been able to get the mom, who actually needed "rescuing" the most.)

Any funds donated that go beyond the direct expenses needed to ensure these dogs are healthy and placed into permanent loving homes--will go to Rainbow Rescue to be used toward future dog rescue efforts. (NONE of the money will go to me.)

THE LAKE LA PORCH PUP FAMILY NEEDS YOUR HELP. Let's all do what we can to make sure their story has a great and happy ending!

We can't save all abandoned and stray animals out there, but we can definitely save these ones. They are off to a great new start...please give what you can to help us take them the rest of the way home.

Thanks in advance for your help and caring! If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me.

*Regarding the pups' dad...in a remarkable coincidence, it seems like the stray dog I took in three months ago--who was starving and worm-ridden and came into my yard to eat out of my compost pile--may very well be the father of these puppies. (Having fathered them before he showed up at my place, over a mile away.) In fact, it was his sniffing and attention as we passed that abandoned building that caused me to look into it, and discover mom and her pups living under there!
