Hello everyone, my name is AJ and I am a freelance artist. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember but started to do commission orders at the age of 16. Ever since then I've been working harder and harder at my skill even though I could not afford to go to schools or colleges to study. Studying online, books I could get my hands on, and from my fellow artists I've come a long way. But I still have so much more to do and practice before I can ever be satisfied!
In 2011 I was officially diagnosed with a very severe case of Rheumatoid Arthritis. By the time we could afford to seek out medical care it had already done significant damage to my joints. When this all happened we were declined health insurance to pursue treatment. The doctor was willing to give me the most basic RA medications so I could have use of my arms and hands again. I'm currently waiting for the Affordable Care Act to hopefully give me some help in the medical department so I can finally work on getting much better treatments for my arthritis.
Because of my extreme limitations I can no longer hold a job. I have extreme fatigue on a daily basis and when the weather is cold, as it's about to be winter here in North Dakota, my joints get inflamed, swollen, and completely riddled with pain. I have trouble walking, moving, and sometimes even holding a pen. Over the past year working at my desk in bad sitting positions has only made it worse.
My only accessible work lately as been my artwork. I sell some merchandise with my art and do commission artwork for random clients. Because of my work area I am not even able to complete the little amount of work I'm allowed to do because of my chronic illness. This is why I'm using GOFUNDME to help myself and my business.
This is where I need your help.
I'm looking to upgrade my tablet. I currently have been using an Intuos4 medium tablet for 5 years now. Because of how I hunch over my desk to draw with it has now hindered me more than help, I'm looking to hopefully purchase a Cintiq 22HD
It comes with a prop stand which I do believe will help with my drawing position. But to be on the safe side I'm also going to be purchasing am Arm Mount for my Cintiq.
With an Arm Mount to help me out even on my worst days, if I can't sit upright due to back pain or nausea I can lay back into my chair and bring my tablet TOWARDS ME. This is so important that I can continue to work despite my illness.
After considering the Cintiq and the Arm Mount for it we also have to take in consideration of my desk. My current desk was a cheap plywood walmart brand one that I got quickly due to moving around so much. The desk will have to be replaced with something a lot more sturdy and reliable to be hold up such expensive electronics. We are still hunting for the perfect desk but have managed to construct a budget for all three items for $3000.00 USD.
This is my personal GOFUNDME goal. This is also my very first time doing anything like this, so please have patience with me as I try to work through this process.
