The Novato Community Garden Project
is the vision of a dedicated and determined group of volunteers who believe
that providing space for the community to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers
will positively impact the lives of many.
Our dream is that we can: (1) build
a healthy, sustainable community where people from diverse backgrounds
come together to reconnect with the land, (2) grow
and preserve food in a sustainable manner for ourselves and others, (3) work
with and educate families, schools, and our community about the positive
benefits of choosing sustainable ways of eating, gardening and living, by
providing programs that support nutrition education, our local foodshed,
school and community gardens, and sustainable living practices. www.NovatoCommunityGarden.org
After seven years of hard work, we have acquired a wonderful site for our garden: It is located O'Hair Park on Novato Blvd, past San Marin High School on the west side of the Dog Bone Meadow Park. But, before we can open it we need to construct the entryway and parking. We need our garden to be truly accessible to all! To do this we need $110,000. (The cost to construct the whole garden is estimated at $250,000.)
Please help us bring this opportunity to our town. Any help would be most gratefully appreciated and acknowledged. The Novato Community Garden is a project of Novato Live Well Network, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your contributions are tax deductible. www.NovatoLiveWell.org
Our Goal is to raise $30,000 in online donations. Construction can begin as soon as we can raise $110,000.
OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
(1) Raised $33,800 monetary donations and $22,000 in-kind donations.
(2) Drilled a well and found water. The garden will use well water and solar energy for the pump.
(3) Drafted and submitted landscape and architectural designs to the City of Novato.
(4) Received unanimous approval from the Design Review Committee and Council Members of the City of Novato.
(5) Paid over $21,500 in city fees, permits, and related expenses, and met all of the City of Novato's requirements.
(6) Negotiated a lease with the City of Novato, receiving a unanimous approval from the Novato City Council.
(7) Established a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and acquired insurance.
