"Miles for Nile"
is an event taking place on October 26-27, 2013 where Brad Dains will be running for 24 hours during the Equalizer Endurance Run
to raise funds to assist the family of Nile Morris.
Nile is a 20-month boy who was recently diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis
(LCH) which is a rare disease that is believed to affect less than one in 200,000 children.
Scientists do not agree on whether LCH is a type of cancer or is a condition caused by a change in the immune system. LCH is mainly treated with anticancer drugs
. Some of these drugs are also used to treat immune system conditions.
LCH may occur at any age, but is most common in young children, but
any age group can be affected. It occurs most often between the ages of 1
As part of the treatment, Nile will undergo treatments that are very similar to cancer treatment (including Chemotherapy) and will be given medications to increase his immune system and help his body to learn to fight off infections and bacteria that our bodies naturally fight off without intervention.
As a part of the fundraising campaign, "Miles for Nile" will be accepting three different types of donations. Flat donations will be accepted prior to the Equalizer Endurance Run to use for medical bills and other expenses that come with this very expensive treatment.
The second option takes place during the event as "Miles for Nile" will be asking for donations per mile that Brad will be running.
Keep in mind that this is a 24 hour event where Brad is hoping to run over 100 miles. For example, if you would like to donate $0.25 per mile and if he does run 100 miles your donation amount will be $25. Easy as pie.
The third option would be to make checks payable to Corey or Melissa Morris to be made:
River Valley Credit Union
C/O Corey &
2811 East 13th Street
P.O. Box 747
Ames, IA 50010-0747
If you would like to make a donation with the second option and have questions or would like to make your pledge prior to the event, please use the "Contact" button located in the blue bar below to contact the event organizer.
Also, if you would like to join Brad to run/walk during the event, please email using the "Contact" button located in the blue bar below for more information.
