Hi friends and supporters...
I posted a while ago and for some reason it appears it didn't show up...
It very much saddens me to let you all know that poor little Lily died a few weeks ago. She was seemingly getting better and then one day she was having trouble breathing again. My sister took her to the hospital and they said she had a lot of fluid in her lungs. They still did not know what was wrong with her, only that she had a serious lung issue and they thought it was fungal and therefore the antibiotics had not been working. They told my sister it would be $2,500 to keep her the night and try to aspirate some fluid from her lungs to test it for different types of fungus...or, she could put her down. Of course she chose to have them try to fix her and she went home to wait for news. Well at 2 a.m. they called to say she wasn't doing well, and then another call to say they were giving her CPR and then another call to say they couldn't save her... :(
The doctors still maintain they have never seen a case like hers before. They still do not know exactly what it was and to do find out would be very expensive. (I thought they should have done it just for their own knowledge)...
Needless to say my sister who fell in complete and total love with this puppy cried for days and days. She said her eyes were swollen shut. What a cruel twist of fate to get a sweet puppy for the first time in your life only to have it die 3 weeks later and be in debt for $3,500. I am trying to get her to consider a new puppy or a shelter dog but she says nothing will ever compare to her sweet Lily. I hope and pray she accepts another dog in her life...I saw firsthand the amount of joy it brought her. I know you all understand that.
Thanks again to all of you for your generous donations. I realize this is not the outcome any of us wanted but I truly think Lily was just a sick puppy from the start...she may have even had an auto-immune disorder in addition to her enlarged heart. At the very least she knew she was loved in her short life... My sister is already asking me if I think she'll get to see Lily in heaven...breaks my heart!
When she gets a new dog I will post pictures for you all to see. Hopefully it will be within the next few months. Again thanks for trying to save Lily the cutest puppy ever!
Again I want to say thank you to all who have donated to helping Lily. She has been doing better this past week thanks to some very strong antibiotics but the Dr's still don't know exactly what is ailing her. She has managed to stay out of the hospital, but will need to undergo further tests to check for Blastomycosis which is a fungal disease linked to breathing spores likely found in the farm environment of her breeder. She will also need more EKGs to keep an eye on the enlarged heart diagnosis. (We like to think it's just because she is extra sweet! ;)
Lily's prognosis is not good. The vets said they have never seen a case where they have not been able to diagnose what's wrong. She has another lung infection and they don't know how to treat her because they don't know the bacteria that is causing it. They wanted her to stay again in the hospital so they could aspirate her lungs and try to find out what the infection is but it would be another $2,000 and my sister said she couldn't do that. She cant afford to spend $5,000 on a puppy she's only had a week. The vet even loves her so much she said she wouldn't sleep knowing that Lily wasn't being watched in the hospital tonight. They even have to make special medicine for her since she is so small. Otherwise they'd have to cut the pills into 8ths. Please consider helping to get the tests Lily needs to be diagnosed and treated. She is a sweet little puppy and just wants to live.
Lily was only out of the hospital for 4 days and she is now back in again. She was acting very tired and had no energy to bounce around and play with her ball and wouldn't eat. She was very traumatized from her first stay in the hospital and would not let her owner out of her sight without whimpering. Now she has to endure more tests and x-rays and they think her pneumonia was never fully cured. Of course there are now several hundred dollars of more vet bills. We really want her to get better for good but she is so small and weak. I feel really bad for my sis who is over moon with this pup but was not prepared for these enormous bills. Please help if you can...
This is Lily a 10-week old miniature dachshund puppy that I got for my sister. She is super cute and very sweet. Unfortunately my sister only got to enjoy her for 3 days before Lily became very sick and had several diagnostic tests before determining she had pneumonia and an enlarged heart. She had to spend 2 nights in the hospital in an incubator with IV's and oxygen. She was super scared in there since she just left her momma a week earlier. This has been very traumatic for her and my sister who had no idea that owning a puppy would cost her over $2,000 in vet bills the first week. She is now so attached to the puppy that she does not want to return her. To see the happiness and joy this little pup has brought to her life is a joy to watch but the thought that I saddled her with all this debt that she can't afford now breaks my heart. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small even if it's positive thoughts. Thanks for listening.
