Help Fund 412Flock! for the 2016

Donation protected

Since 2010, “412Flock!" (previously known as 'Flock of Cycles”) has been conducting open-to-all, slow-paced (sometimes silly), friendly social rides from Oakland into the rest of Pittsburgh, where we want to provide safe, comfortable, welcoming rides to encourage people to get out on their bikes and rediscover the fun of cycling we knew as youngsters.

We are a non-profit organization (501c in-progress) with no paid staff, fully supported by its members, community volunteers, and in-kind donations. In 2015, the organization was re-branded as “412 Flock!” to re-invigorate our identity as we approach new goals of outreach and inclusion –and this is what we’ve done so far:

This year 412Flock! has been working to innovate by being more inclusive within the Pittsburgh community by extending its bike rides to other groups not explicitly reach out to by the growing bike scene in our city:

We've had the Cinco de Mayo ride and the Rainbow Pride Ride. We've developed a Spanish Bici101 brochure, and bilingual materials for FreeRide. Later this year we expect to have a Labor Ride, the Día de Los Muertos Ride, and the Hanukkah Ride. We're also working on another ride with the Japanese community.

We’ve also continued strengthening our Marshal services by working with the East End Brewing Company for the Pedal Pale Ale Keg Ride, and the Woiner Foundation for the 321 Ride (coming this October!).

412 Flock! has always carried an insurance policy and has a safety program. The cost of insurance is our greatest operating expense at approximately $1500/year. Right now we have $500, which we earned because our volunteers provide marshalling services for groups wanting to have bike rides. We have a big bill due on Aug.7th. We need to raise $500 in three weeks, and another $500 by the end of the year.

If we are fortunate enough to reach our campaign goal, we will apply it to our insurance premium so that we are able to continue growing a welcoming place for bicyclists in Pittsburgh.

Riding a bike has been a precursor of empowerment and resourcefulness since the 1800s. A bike ride can address a wide range of issues: health, safety, diversity, and sustainability - just to name a few. By riding on two wheels, we are proof that doing more with non-typical bicycle riders, we can do more than might has ever been imagined -with potential for more yet.

Our goal is to become a self-sufficient organization, but until we get there, we need your help for 2015, please!

Every gift counts - $10, $20, $50,  or more! Please help 412Flock! to continue its growth!
