Amanda had surgery today and
SHE MADE IT THRU !!!
Another major hurdle - Done! Check!
They just brought her back and are getting her settled in her room. The maxillofacial surgeon said procedure was extensive but went very well. Neuro surgeon said surgery went well. Praise God!! She has a long road ahead; please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Amanda had a good night last night. The nurses are still managing her sodium levels. The endocrinology team came by this morning and told me the nurses are doing everything exactly as they would like for Amanda's injury. The Neuro surgeon came by and said the surgery is on for tomorrow morning.
Her surgery is scheduled to start at 7:30am. They are expecting it to take approximately 8 hours. Please declare her healing and pray God's hands guide her surgeons throughout her extensive surgery.
God Bless you, thank you for your kindness, encouraging words, prayers, donations and testimonials. Words can not express my gratitude or the strength you have given me by sharing a bit of yourselves at this trying time.
I will post another update after her surgery.
Amanda has had a steady few days. Her vitals are great and her "road rash" is healing very well. She is initiating breathing through the trach which is a positive move in the right direction. Her swelling has gone way down and the bruises are diminishing. She is starting to look like the beautiful lady we all know and love!!! Please continue with positive thoughts and prayers, we know God's hands are on her!
Shirts are available to purchase to help show support for Amanda. The goal is to sell 250 shirts or more in the next 2 weeks. You can reserve your shirts and when the goal is reached the shirts will be created and shipped directly to you. The shirts will not be created and payment will not be processed until 250 shirts are reserved. The campaign ends in 2 weeks, on June 4th. Please help spread the word & show support and prayers for Amanda!!!!
Today the docs feel that most everything is under control. Her sodium levels are back in range, her ICP (Intra Cranial Pressure) is still ok and she's been taken off one of the pain relievers and is getting a minute dose of one other.
Her stimulus response continues to improve. The stimulus test gives the docs an idea of how her motor control and pain response systems are functioning.
The best news of the day is that Amanda is controlling her temperature. This is great news because it's one of the last autonomic nervous system functions that the doctors were concerned about. The autonomic nervous system is the part of the brain that functions automatically and reflexively. It controls the internal organs and some muscles.
Amanda's next challenge is to come out of her coma. According to the docs this process can take anywhere between 24 hours and maybe up to 2 weeks or even longer.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! Please keep Amanda, her medical team, family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
The morning report is that her sodium has dropped to acceptable levels.
They will most likely remove the last chest tube because its a potential source of infection and its not needed.
Just like treating a bruise Amanda had passed the "ice it" stage and is now entering the "heat pad" stage of treatment. The docs are going to let her warm her up to about 97. The temp increase should promote circulation which should aid in her recovery.
The docs have decided to add some hormone therapy. The hormones should help Amanda control her body temp and to provide additional assistance in reducing swelling.
Amanda's Heart rate and blood pressure are holding just fine with no meds. Her ICP (intra cranial pressure) is within normal limits.
Her next hurdle is to maintain her body temp with no external assistance.
We'd like to THANK ALL OF YOU for your prayers and good thoughts.
Please keep it up and continue to spread the word.
Neuro surgeon said we need to see her monitor her own body temp. Please Pray for healing for her brain to be able to control her body temperature. That is her current hurdle. Thanks for everyone's support so far its amazing how generous everyone has already been!
Amanda is maintaining her blood pressure well without any medication! Another baby step in the right direction! Your prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated and working. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING, miracles are happening!

We thought that you might like to learn a little about the young woman who is touching all our lives. This short bio was written by a dear friend and waterski teammate of Amanda. We think he did a beautiful job of describing Amanda.
Amanda Hoffman is a 23 year old spring 2013 graduate of Texas A&M University. She is enrolled to begin her first year at the University of Houston Law School in the fall. Amanda is best known for her vibrant, energetic and highly contagious personality. If you know Amanda you are a better person because of it. She will inspire you. Her laugh is one of a kind and puts a smile on your face as soon as you hear it...you just can't help but laugh with her.
Among several other attributes, Amanda has a serious knack for fashion, writing, and all things wedding. She spent an entire summer writing for Southern Bride magazine in Nashville, TN. But don't let her girly side fool you as she is just as talented when it comes to extreme sports. Amanda is a fierce competitor on the Texas A&M Waterski team where she has served as club Captain for nearly 4 years. She loves traveling and especially favors South Africa where she spent an entire semester in school while volunteering her time teaching children at the Kayamandi township. Amanda realized her goal of becoming a lawyer during her time with the local children. She saw this as the best way for her to benefit others in need. It is probably one of the easiest decisions she has ever had to make as it completely suits her stong willed, highly motivated, no compromise disposition.
Amanda's an all around gifted person who is loved and cherished by everyone's life that she touches. When you look up the phrase "live every moment to it's fullest" you will see Amanda Hoffman's name.
Please keep Amanda, her family and the special team of doctors and nurses in your thoughts and prayers.
They sent $100 to Amanda Hoffman Fund. They also sent a really nice card which I will forward to Amanda's Mom. Their son Brent was on A&M's Waterski Team and they hosted The Polar Bear Tournaments a couple of times at their lakes. The front of the card reads "Praying that your heart will be filled with the peace of God during this time and that you'll know HE loves you far more than any words can express" There is a personal message following.
