Fund Hannah's Story and family

Hannah turns 10 tomorrow, and has never walked a step or uttered a word. She has a very rare chromosomal disorder (only 14 or 15 like her known in the world as any given time) that precludes most normal activity, including swallowing [correction--she doesn't close her epiglottis, so anything that goes in her mouth goes in her lungs], but her eyes are alive and constantly expressing. We want to share her journey so far, as well as some of what we have learned about managing family life while dealing with a very special child.

We also have uncomfortable realities to deal with. The insurance that pays for the nursing that keeps Hannah alive comes from the state, which, in effect, prohibits us from having savings. So when our van broke early this month, its repair left us with $32 to get through the rest of the month.

We wanted to tell Hannah's story through an ebook in the "normal way," i.e., write the book and then put it up for sale. Now, though, we hope to raise funds by, in a sense, pre-selling the book, or rather offering it as a way of saying thanks to those who support us in this emergency and help us get the story ready to share with the world.

All those who contribute to this will get a free copy of the ebook as soon as it is ready, either in PDF form or in Kindle form. (When the book goes live on Amazon, it will be free for a few days--I will send you the link the first day so you can grab it. If you miss the window, I will send you the PDF version, and notify you when the ebook is free on Amazon again.)

We will also list your name on a special acknowledgment page in the ebook for Hannah's Guardian Angels, those folks who helped make sure we could keep the lights on and the water running for her.

The ebook will tell Hannah's story, how we learned of her condition, what she has gone through, how she inspires and teaches us. It will also include what we have learned about dealing with the medical system and the state, and keeping a family together through it all, plus links to resources we have gathered over the years. It will also have photos of Hannah from early times through the present, many of them taken by her brother, who is studying to become a photographer, and who has delayed his own education and career to help take care of her.

Thank you in advance for your support of Hannah, her family, and this effort.
