RETREAT CENTRE & GARDEN -GREECE

I'm a UK multi media Artist. Since 2001 I've built entirely by hand on my own two gardens, loosely based on traditional Japanese and Chinese Garden design, in the UK. These are my 'Peace Gardens'. They include water features, and sculptures built by by me among the various plantings including bamboo, conifer and deciduous trees. The largest garden at the property I live in ( shown in the pictures here, approximately ten years after I started planting ) is also where I teach Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Chi Kung classes.

I now have an invitation from a friend and student to builld an even larger garden in Greece, on the island of Corfu, on his land. This is to be part of a larger project to build a retreat centre there too. This will be a an open retreat centre, non religious, offering retreats for Yoga,Tai Chi, Chi Kung and other well being subjects. It will be available for use by teachers from all over the world, including my own.

The project including the garden would employ local labour, use local materials ( including rocks and indigenous trees) all contributing to much needed revenue for the local Greek economy which has suffered great hardship in recent years. Retreats and events are one of the few growth areas in the entire Greek economy. The garden would be part of the retreat centre and open to the public to visit, as soon as it was feasibly possible. My initial non-profit role would be to design and supervise the garden project from the UK, visiting the site at least every 3 months. I'll build the large planned water feature 24ft tall), and various bird baths, lanterns, sculptures, wooden benches, and the like, while in Greece. Volunteers and my students from the UK have already expressed interest in coming and helping with the construction.

All donations regardless of size are welcome. You are directly helping the local Greek community with much needed money, and employment with the construction, and later when the retreat opens with additional employment and supplies. Visitors to the retreat will also bring much needed revenue. Money goes directly to the locals, and not through any local administration. Only later will building permits etc require funds.
