Life was good until my husband Ralph got in an auto accident. The other driver ran a stop sign while looking at his puppy instead of the road. (Sounds bogus, I know, but sadly true.) Ralph lost his landscaping business, we've moved twice, well, I've moved once to keep my job when the department relocated, and him twice, in search of employment. So I'm working, but my paycheck is not enough to keep us afloat. We're still looking for jobs, one for him, and one for me where he is (500 miles from my current location). We bought a house there, 3 miles from where he got a job:and he was fired 2 days after settlement. Replaced by two undocumented workers. Along the way we managed to acquire two currently unsellable houses. We found renters for them, and thought we were doing okay, but one renter lost his job and is currently two months in arrears (but recently rehired, and catching up on his payments.) The other abandoned the house owing back rent, and we learned just how fragile our finances really are.
So we're branching out. We're long-term organic gardening fanatics, but Ralph's got me beat there (professional landscaper). I've got a broader skill set that includes writing, visual arts, and web work. I started a blog, www.suburbutopia.com that harnesses both our strengths. He'll be the on the ground guy who gets to do most of the actual gardening and selling produce at a local flea market. I'll be the one that writes about it on the web. Go on, click the link right now and check it out. I'll wait.
So here's where you come in. I'd like to get advertising revenue from the blog, but Wordpress has its own system and won't let you host paying ads until you reach a certain number of hits per day. I've printed business cards and will spend Saturday April 20 attending various local Earth Day events and handing out hundreds of them. And yes, I can get hits by clicking on other Wordpress blogs, liking them, and hoping they come visit, but I have that pesky but indispensable day job and quilts to make. (I made a quilt for my daughter's wedding, and a couple of people have asked me to make baby quilts for them.) So can you help us out?
