Natasha's Field Studies in South Africa
Donation protected
Greeting Friends, Family and Supporters,
As most of you know, I am currently in a Masters of Public Health Program at UCLA. One of the requirements for my degree program is to complete a 400 hour field studies project/internship in a health related setting this Summer. Fortunately, I have been offered the opportunity to work in South Africa!
I will be working on a project called SATHRI or the South African Trans Health and Research Initiative primarily with an organization called Gender DynamiX. Gender DynamiX is a Cape Town(where they have penguins on the beach!) based transgender advocacy organization; the first of its kind on the African continent. I will also be traveling to Pretoria and East London in South Africa to work with two other organizations (SHE and TIA), in this collaborative effort. The goal is to conduct a research about access and barriers to accessing health care among the transgender population in South Africa.
I know I will gain a wealth of knowledge and have an amazing experience while completing this internship(plus I get to see penguins lol). This opportunity will allow me to use my public health related skills while also allowing me to pursue my passion for serving others:..BUT:.I NEED YOUR HELP in donating to my trip! This internship is unpaid. Although I will be applying for and hopefully receiving a fellowship, it will not cover the total expenses in order to make this opportunity possible. Due to my health problems, I cannot work and go to school, so I have not been able to work and save money for this trip. This is why I need your help! Any funds, big or small would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar counts and with each dollar, I will be closer to affording this amazing opportunity.
For all the donators (and moral supporters), I will probably be blogging and taking lots of pictures during the trip so you will be able to fully see that your investment is worth it :). I will also try to bring back as many souvenirs as possible for those that would like one! Thank you!
