My Life in Cambodia

In 2010 I left life as I knew it behind and set my heart firmly in Cambodia. For more than 2 and a half years I struggled and saved, recruited sponsors and volunteers, established a community based project and helped changed the lives of hundreds while travelling back and forth between Australia and Cambodia.
It would prove to be both rewarding and heartbreaking and many times I felt I was failing and wanted to walk away but could not.
Eventually after alot of hard work and prayers I was able to move to Cambodia, to strengthen the projects I had created, but it hasn't been easy. Disappointment at every turn and small achievements followed by big heartbreaks, over and over.
But my time here is not yet over, and I have had to temporarily move away from where my heart lies in Siem Reap to earn money for living in Cambodia, by working in the big, hectic and often scary city of Phnom Penh.
I've been homesick and disillusioned at times and felt isolated and unable to travel home without the help of my family, which left me feeling like a failure.
I've had to accept I cannot do this work on my own and remember that the world is full of kind and selfless people who are wanting to help make a difference but not sure where their inspiration lies. And so I would like to be that inspiration, to let them know that there are real life people out there who would appreciate with all their hearts the assistance they provide, will not abuse their generosity and will in turn, through having their dreams realised, show their helpers that life really can be amazing after all.
