1. FC Slovacko Zeny is a women's first division team in the Czech Republic. The past two seasons they finished third in the league. Their goal this coming season is to finish first or second in the league and qualify to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
The team is part of the bigger club of 1. FC Slovacko which includes the men's first division team as well as both boys and girls youth teams. The women's team receives very minimal support from their club, because most of the club's resources go into the men's side. For example, the club received a new sponsorship this year, but the women will not receive any of the benefits for another three years. They have not been able to buy new uniforms or training shirts and shorts for several years. They also travel the day of the game, sometimes waking up at 4:30 am, driving 4 hours, and then playing a game because they do not have the funds to go the day before and stay in a hotel. The men's and boys teams also travel to other countries for tournaments and to get ready for the season, but the women's team has never had that opportunity.
It is difficult to find sponsorship for the team in the Czech Republic. Any potential sponsors or donors give money to the club as a whole, but the club does not extend that to the women's side. Therefore, we are trying to help the team now by finding donors in the United States, while we fight for equality within the club. Several players from the United States and Australia are currently playing on the team, or have played on the team recently. Some of these players include Jacquelyn Paz, Jordan Marada, Jennifer Skogerboe, Zoya Farzaneh, Kassinha Massey, Kelsey Gudgeon, Vendula Strnadova, Ashley Swinehart, Hannah Gmerek, Lexi Tagen, Rebecca Nelson, Grace Gill, Jennifer Bisset, and Becky Kiting.
This past year the club was also able to help two of their players (Alzbeta Chlumova and Petra Smetkova) receive a scholarship to play collegiately in the United States.
Please help support the team in their quest for the Champions League, as well as working towards their dreams both in the Czech league and in the United States.
