Pa'lante Student Leadership Development

Pa'lante means to keep moving forward in the Puerto Rican dialect of Spanish, which connects to the work we are asking you to help develop.

Please help teachers, staff, and students of Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School (PACHS)  attend, participate in, and present at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in San Francisco in April 2013.

The AERA conference is annually attended by nearly 15,000 scholars and researchers from across the world, and features presentations from academics on a variety of educational topics.

The process of being accepted to present at AERA is quite competitive and PACHS was very honored to be granted an entire symposium (90 minutes) to talk about their work in the area of critical pedagogy and social justice, Their panel, entitled, "To Live and help to live: Critical pedagogy and social justice education in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood" will take place on Tuesday, April 30th at 8 am.

The school would like to take 4-5 teachers/staff and 2-3 students to San Francisco to participate at the conference. This will provide an important opportunity for the school to talk about their work and engage with other social-justice oriented educators.

We are currently seeking donation to fund the trip, which includes transportation, lodging, and food costs. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
