9/11 15th Anniversary Charity Event

Hi there world. My name is Troy Moravek.  I am proud member of The  Port Authority Police of New York and New Jersey.  When I started my career I did not realize that not only would I be representing myself and my fellow Brother and Sister Officers', but also those who came before me who served with Pride, Service, and Distinction. 37 of those who served before me paid the "Ultimate Sacrifice" on September 11, 2001.  The "Ultimate Sacrifice" is giving your life for another or many others in this case. These 37 Police Officers' wearing the same uniform I proudly wear today ran towards certain danger when the "Twin Towers" were hit that morning. As those two Sky Scrapers fell and the public ran for their lives as they should have, the 37 ran heroicly towards the buildings knowing their job was not only to preserve life, but to give their lives in order to save thousands. Unfortunatley as time passes our younger generations lose sight of what happened that day and the sacrifice made. We who were old enough to understand the magnitude of what happened that day forget about the families left behind by the 37 Port Authority Police Officers, the 23 NYPD Officers, and the 343 FDNY men and women who valiantly risked their lives to save so many others. Some of these Officers had infant children, sick children, disabled spouses, and large families to provide for. Sadly we as a department we continue to lose Police Officers who worked tirelessly at "Ground Zero" afflicted by disease, physical and mental illness, trauma, and other misfortunes from the hazardous conditions at the site. This fund helps their families go on in their absence and continues to help those who survived and feel a pain that I hope most of us will never know.

Incorporated on March 2, 2004, the Port Authority PBA Widow's and Children's Fund was established to provide and maintain bereavement benefits to aid and assist Port Authority PBA Officers and their families in the immediate aftermath of an accidental injury or death. The fund also aims to improve and advance both the physical and emotional well-being of widows and children of disabled and deceased police officers. Widows and children receive support regarding medical, legal, educational, psychiatric, and social welfare issues. The constant goal of the fund is to promote an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of widows and children of deceased police officers. The Port Authority PBA Widow's and Children's Fund is supported by individual and corporate donations, as well as by fund-raising events held throughout the year. The fund has no paid staff; volunteers from the Port Authority Police and civilian communities organize and manage all fund activities. The Port Authority PBA Widow's and Children's Fund is recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) 3 Charity.
