Help Maggie Beat Cancer!

Maggie's been my constant companion since 2005. I had just lost my furbaby Tramp after a short illness. He'd been with me for almost 17 years. My sisters wanted to get me another dog, so off to a rescue farm we went. They had a dog that resembled my late Tramp and my sisters thought he'd be a good fit.

Well, things don't always go as planned. I sat down and watched all the dogs play when one of them came over to me, leaned against me and put her head on my thigh. Yep, I'd been chosen. Maggie chose me.

We've been through two apartments and now in a townhome. We added another dog to our family that adores Maggie. She and Rocky play, more than Maggie's played in years. In the two years since Rocky's arrival, she's almost reverted back to her puppyhood. It's good to see her wrestled with him.

But as things are wont to do, she's developed a health issue that is beyond my capacity to help her. She's got a mass on her tongue that is a melonoma. It hasn't spread to her lungs (thank goodness!) but they haven't done a check on her abdomen.  She's 12, a good long age for a dog, but as she's a mutt and has always been in good health, it's too short. Way too short.

There are a lot of unknowns right now; she's off to the oncologist next week. We are very hopeful they can remove it and give her either radiation or chemo to keep it from returning. It's amazing what they can do for our four-legged children these days.

I know it's going to be expensive. I'm not the type to ask for money; hell, it's hard enough for me to ask people to pay me what I'm owed. I've been very independent since college, but this is beyond my budget. I've been responsible; I do have Maggie on a wellness plan that pays for a majority of her healthcare, but this is beyond the wellness plan will cover.

I know money's tight for every one out there. It seems we are all hit daily with requests for money to help those in need. Some may wonder why I'd want to spend the money on a 'dog' - well, I don't have children and Maggie and Rocky are my kids. Also, the vet said if we can cut the mass out and control it from coming back, she's got another good 3-4 healthy, productive years, of not more.

So yes, it's worth it. It's worth saving a life that saved mine. She chose me because she knew I'd do whatever it took to keep her safe, healthy, and happy. And that's just want I intend to do.

I thank each and every one of you that's read through this.  I would appreciate whatever you can give. $1, $5, $10. I know I don't have anything to offer you other than my undying gratitude and a big ol' kiss from Maggie.
