Give Georgia electric wheels

Georgia is an 19yr old young lady who needs an electric wheelchair.   These are very expensive and if like Georgia you need various adaptions and extras the cost is greater.

Georgia was a normal healthy teenager until the age of thirteen when problems with her bowel started and it stopped working normally.  She was admitted to nine wells hospital, Dundee where she was an inpatient for over 18 weeks.   During this admission she endured many tests and surgeries .  She had a nasal gastric tube passed for medication and was also given an emergency iliostomy and subsequently also suffered paralysis  due to an undiagnosed neurological condition.
She gradually Regained movement back limb by limb  with intensive physiotherapy and lots of hard work.   Moving from wheelchair to crutches which resulted in her coming home.

Sadly this didn't last and she lost all her mobility for a second time and was paralysed from the neck down and was re admitted to ninewells. (This time she didn't gain full mobility back. With only her right arm working).

Around this time she also had issues with a non working bladder which required  her to have further surgery to fit a supra pubic catheter in Aberdeens children's hospital.

Roughly 6  months into this admission her stomach also sadly stopped working  and she was diagnosed with gastric paresis.  The only way to keep her alive was to feed her on T.P.N (total parental nutrition).   She has a Hickman line which is fed directly into a main artery adjacent to her heart which has major implications and risks.

We transferred to Great Ormond Street, London for tests and investigations to try and get answers and an overall diagnosis mid-way through this admission which lasted 15 long  months and affected her and her family greatly.  The tests resulted in her sadly having to endure further surgery to have her large bowel removed has it was ulcerated  beyond repair. A gastrostomy and jejinostomy were fitted at this time to aid in the drainage of gastric juices to stop her vomiting and feed into the small bowel if tolerated. (Not tolerated). She has complete digestive failure.

She was finally discharged mid July 2014 after we had an extension to our home to accommodate Georgia's now disability. Unfortunately it was short lived and she returned to hospital in September.  She spent a  further 6 months as an in-patient due to more complications of her condition. She started having  seizures and subsequently been diagnosed with epilepsy. These have been and still are difficult to deal with as she is fitting out of her current wheelchair onto the floor. An electric chair that reclines back would prevent this and keep her safe and injury free.

After the above discharge her life now consists of  hospital and home. She has had septicaemia 5 times in the last 5 months and is currently an in-patient in ninewells. Her admissions last months rather than weeks.

Time at home is precious and she cannot make full use of this unless we get her the electric wheelchair she needs and deserves to give her a quality of life that we all take for granted.
