Luca's Road to Recovery

Hi! My name is Dave Schuster. I work for a Therapeutic Boarding School in Northern Montana.  One of my coworker's son, Luca Johnson was struck from behind while riding a bike on Rt 37 (a small two lane highway) near Rexford early this week. He had to be taken via lifeflight to the nearest hospital in Kalispell, MT.  The last update on his condition was that he suffered a skull fracture and multiple broken bones, as well as the associated soft tissue damage. The funding goal is a rough estimate that may change as a greater understand of what his needs are. At this time the money would be going towards medical expenses as well as to help support him while he is out of work. Luca is a bike mechanic in Kalispell.
 
This on the face of it is horrible. The unfortunate part is how much worse the circumstances of what happened. It was intentional in not calling it an accident. The following is from an email from his mother, Robyn. Details are still emerging so I will update and edit as necessary in order to maintain accuracy. 

"So far the story is...he pulled into the shoulder, opened his door and asked Luca for the time. He then turned his car around at Rexford Bench and drove slowly by Luca sustaining eye contact. Luca was scared. It was the last thing Luca remembers.

What happened next is the guy drove further and turned around. He drove into the shoulder and intentionally hit Luca at high speed near Mariners Haven. He got out of his car and stole Luca's wallet from his backpack and drove off. The man working in the boat shop heard the crash. A minute later he heard a car speed off so he drove up to the road feeling it might be a hit and run and he found Luca.

The man who hit him was at that time ditching his vehicle off the cliff a few miles away.   He dropped the $4 that was in the wallet on the ground as he walked to the road to hitchhike towards Eureka. Someone in a blue car picked him up. The person ended up dropping him at the site of the accident for some reason (he or she was probably freaked out by the guy like Luca was)  A border patrol was there or police officer and started questioning the guy as maybe he was an eyewitness.  The guy was suspicious.  He ended up handing  over the wallet and admitted to hitting Luca. He was arrested on a probation violation and has been in jail, but wouldn't cooperate."

I am creating this page because it is important to me to help Robyn and Luca monitarily. Community is a core value of mine while I don't know him personally, his mother is a spectular human being that spends her time working with girls who are stuggling with their own life paths.
