Photography School Campaign

Minority Photo/Journalism Institute (MPJI) was established in 2004 to give underprivileged youth the opportunity to learn photography, photojournalism and broadcasting. The mission is to give young people an outlet to develop and see the results of their creative talents.

In 2010 in conjunction with the Inglewood Pacific Chapter of the Links Incorporated through the Links arts facet program. MPJI started teaching a photography class at Inglewood High School in Inglewood California. Some of the students because of their environment often have a negative attitude and are defensive. To date 25 students have completed the two year photography program at Inglewood High School and it has brought a positive change in many of their lives.

We now are starting another photography program in conjunction with the Beverly Hills/ Hollywood branch of the NAACP to teach youth who participate in the Act-So program in the area of photography and wish to pursue a career in this most rewarding profession.

We need your help to purchase equipment and provide the financial support to take the students on photo field trips. Your financial contributions will be greatly appreciated and used to teach the students give them new and positive experiences that widens their horizons.

Special Note:
The video is images from the students of this year’s photography class. It shows what our young people can do when put in a positive environment a couple of them had never picked up a camera before.  We took the students on several photography field trips.

The student range in age from 16 to 18 years old. Several locations we went to that were within 10 miles of where the students live they had never visited! I’m asking you to please help us expose the youth to a bigger and more positive world outside of the world they Know.
