From a very young age, I knew that motorcycles had to be a part of my life. However, it wasn't until 2012 that I decided to try my luck at racing. My expectations for my first couple of years were pretty conservative because I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Despite setting the bar pretty low for myself, I was able to accomplish a lot in those 2 years. In 2012, which was my rookie year, I was able to finish 2nd in the MCRA I-70 Challenge Series in Amateur GT. In 2013, I decided I wanted to try my luck racing with a larger organization for more exposure and greater competition. I decided to race in WERA's North Central region, and I raced in 4 different classes with WERA: B (750cc) Superbike, B (750cc) Superstock, C (600cc) Superbike, and C (600cc) Superstock. I was able to finish 3rd in C Superbike, 2nd in C Superstock and B Superstock, and I came away with a championship in B Superbike.

In 2012, I took at leap of faith and decided to compete in the entire MCRA circuit. I had no idea how well I would do, but it was important for me to at least try. After exceeding all expectations, I decided to take the next step and compete with a national organization. After again exceeding all expectations that I had set for myself, I want to again take the next step. For me, that next step is to compete in the 92nd annual Pike's Peak International Hill Climb, also known as The Race to the Clouds.

The Race to the Clouds is America's second oldest continuing motorsport event, second only to the Indy 500. It is a 12.42 mile race with 156 turns that starts at 9390 ft. and ends at 14,110 ft with an average grade of 7%. Having the qualifications and being approved to compete in this historic race are big accomplishments in and of themselves. However, training for the event, making the journey to Colorado, taking the week prior to the race to practice, and actually finishing the race would put me in a whole new league of racers. Very few can say they have conquered the mountain course, but my goal for myself is to do just that.

This race is a different type of event for me for a number of reasons. Road racing is primarily done on a closed race track that is controlled in a number of ways. The surface is controlled, debris is controlled, and the biggest difference is that tracks normally have a decent amount of run-off area in case things go wrong. This race, however, is a race up Pike's Peak Highway, which is a public road. Spectators will line the road all the way up the mountain, there is little to no run-off, and who knows when wildlife may peek out of the woods to wave at the camera. "Sounds crazy... so why do you want to do it?" you might ask. This event is not just a race, it's a weeklong event that draws a huge number of spectators. It's a week of learning the mountain course, learning about myself, meeting new friends, and enjoying life in a way most only dream about.

Although it is my dream to compete in this event, reality is that this event is substantially more expensive than any other race event I have ever competed in. The travel costs to Colorado, lodging costs for a week, as well as the added cost of tires and fuel for the bike for such a large event add up to a much larger sum of money than I'm able to pay for without the support of my friends and family. If you can donate to Eric Telger Racing to help us get to Colorado, please do. No matter how large or small of a donation, it will help us achieve our goal and get us one step higher on the ladder.
