Donation protected
Seth Roy Sindel, 1LT, USAR (Ret.), age 77, died December 29, 2018 at West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital after a courageous decade-long fight with the after-effects of Agent Orange.

As a lasting tribute to Lieutenant Sindel, the family has opened this ‘GoFundMe’ account to place a memorial paver at the Officers Candidate School Memorial Walk , and for any funds in excess of this honor to be directed to the 1st Battalion (Mechanized) 50th Infantry Association to both honor and keep his story, and the stories of his comrades, alive for future generations. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by friends, however this is in lieu of flowers.

A warrior in the truest sense of the word, Lieutenant Sindel was stricken with Polio at a young age, and though many did not believe he would survive beyond his time in an iron lung, he fought his way through to achievements including: service to our Country, being a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather, as well as a trusted friend, confidant, and a leader in the finance industry.  Lieutenant Sindel is survived by his sister Sara Mandell, his two sons Joseph and Nathan Sindel, daughter-in-law Tammy Sindel, grandson Leo Seth Sindel, those he proudly served with, and all of those that called him friend.

Lieutenant Sindel was an infantry platoon leader during the Vietnam War. He returned from overseas with a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star, Air Medal, two Purple Hearts, and numerous combat air assaults while serving with the 1st Battalion (Mechanized ) 50th Infantry ‘Play the Game’ Regiment, attached to the 1st Cavalry Division, as well as the 9th Infantry Division, and others. He considered his time in the Army not only as his duty, but as a high honor; he revered the men he served with in Vietnam, and regarded his comrades in arms as being those from the founding of our Country to those serving today.

He grew up in the 1940s and 1950s in Brooklyn and Long Island, New York, and was never known to retreat from any adversity that he saw as ‘the right thing to do’. He was accepted to the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School, and then received a degree in history and math from Long Island University.

Rising to the level of Executive Vice President of a leading insurance premium finance company, he served with distinction.  His dedication to his staff ensured that through multiple corporate sales, his department remained intact. He was a leading figure in the field of insurance fraud, working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations as well as participating in numerous lectures nationwide at the behest of his company.

Military Funeral Services will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery on Friday, January 18th at 10:30am, where he will be interred with his wife of 45 years, Brenda Ann Sindel, who passed away in 2017.

(Though the 1/50th Infantry Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we will be unable to determine which donations, in whole or in part, will be allocated towards the OCS Memorial Paver, and which will be directed towards the 1/50th.  Therefore, if you wish to make a tax-deductible donation to the 1/50th, we ask that you please send a check, made payable to 'The 1/50th Infantry Association', to: 1/50th Infantry Association, c/o Charles F McAleer III, Treasurer, 24714 Ellesmere, San Antonio,TX 78257. On the check please state ‘donation in memory of Lt. Seth Sindel’.)
