When Eric and I knew we were going to get married, we started discussing having a family. We knew we wanted kids, more than one. We had names picked out and I couldn't wait to have the feeling of being pregnant.
That all changed when I had a genetic test done and found out that I was positive for the BRCA gene. Now, this didn't prevent me from having children but there is a 50% chance that I will pass the gene to any children we biologically have. This gene drastically raises a person's chances of getting breast or ovarian cancer during their lifetime. For that reason, I underwent a total hysterectomy. AKA no biological children.
We have decided we want to adopt and give a child a loving and safe home with two parents who will love them unconditionally forever. What a shock we were in for when we started doing research. Adoption can cost upwards of $60,000!
We are starting this fundraising page, not so we don't have to pay any part of the adoption but so we can adopt and still be able to put money back to not totally hinder our finances. We want to be able to provide the best life possible for a child and this fund will help us do just that.
