MyoPro Bionic Brace for Paralysis!

May 2015, Sara was a victim in a hit and run motorcycle accident causing a multitude of fractures, but most devastatingly, a Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury (TBPI) of her right, dominant, arm.

Sara was traveling on Thunderbird Road around 9 p.m., after leaving Banner Thunderbird Hospital, where she was visiting her Mother, when a silver Chevy Impala hit her on the right. The Impala did not stop at their red light and made a WIDE right turn into the far left lane, where Sara had tried to swerve, but there was only so much room. This hit caused the motorcycle, a very nice Triumph Daytona 900, to hit the center median, fall over, and Sara body flew in front of the on-coming Ford Expedition, head-on. The two collisions caused severe damage on Sara's body, they were near-simultaneous. She was immediately treated on the scene by the local No. 3 FD of Glendale. On the scene, the worst was thought, that her lungs were punctured and she was drowning on her blood. Measures were taken on the road to save her life. It wasn't until in the ICU at John C Lincoln, now known as Honor Health, that trauma surgeons figured out was actually coming from the devastating blow to the clavicle and shoulder. The clavicle was smashed, literally, to pieces and had to be removed, replaced with a titanium rod, running from Sara's shoulder to sternum. The unfortunate and irreversible issue at the time was the severe nerve damage caused by the blow, resulting in the TBPI.

Sara was wearing her helmet, racing gloves, a mesh kevlar jacket and jeans. Despite being in all of her protective gear, which saved her life,  she still suffered fractures in her skull, ribs, neck, back, right collarbone, right shoulder blade, right leg/ foot adding up to over 20 fractures, with the majority of these breaks being in her spinal cord. Also, she suffered major damage to her brachial plexus which has caused her paralysis (to lose movement and sensation), preventing complete use of her right arm.

Since the police were never able to find who caused this collision, and Sara's auto insurance coverage was very limited, she is stuck with most of the bills and having medicaid & medicare Sara is responsible for any and all special equipment, such as this MyoPro, made by Myomo (Myomo.com).

"This was my first time trying the MyoPro device after having a motorcycle accident 3 years ago. My right (dominant) arm has been paralyzed for 3 years and a couple months, so you can just IMAGINE how extraordinary it is to not only move my arm, but to do functional tasks! I have an amazing clinical team at Mayo Clinic in Arizona who are full force helping me to regain a happy life! IMAGINE what I could accomplish in the future if I can overcome this paralysis!!??!! My incredible surgical team at the Mayo Clinic in AZ is Dr. Shelley Noland (BPI Specialist), Dr. Kouloumberis (Nerve/Neuro Surgeon) and Dr. Rebecca (Plastics) have done so much to make getting to this point possible, I'm so eager to see how science and technology will take those previous surgeries further!"
