Hi, I'm Michele McGuire, single Mom of 3 boys & I own & run an amazing flower shop for the last 25 plus years.
I was diagnosed with idiopathic chronic pancreatitis, along with many complications resulting from this little known about disease.
I have been sick since April of 2014 and until now, have kept my medical problems very quiet.
I'm just now realizing the extent of all of this & I'm scared.
I spend alot of my time at the doctors, in the hospital or in terrible pain, emotionally & physically.
After numerous hospital stays (7 in ten months), more tests then I can count, and multiple doctors, they still do not know what exactly is causing this potentially life-altering/threatening disease.
Chronic pancreatitis affects the organ known as the pancreas, which is located below your stomach. The pancreas produces enzymes, which help to digest your food, and hormones such as insulin, which regulates the level of sugar in your bloodstream. Chronic pancreatitis causes irreversible damage to the organ and is extremely painful. Other symptoms are nausea, vomiting, poor digestion, and weight loss, a greatly increased risk of developing Type 1 Diabetes and pancreatic cancer, the outlook is usually not very good.
I have a long road to go as I work thru the health care system to get the treatment I need.
The problem is, being self employeed & a single Mom, I have no health insurance. (I would like to add that I paid hundreds & thousands of dollars on insurance for 20 yrs & never had a need for it)
Only my close friends & family know what I have been going thru so this is very hard for me, however, because of the financial toll all of this has taken & will continue to take on my family, I am asking for help.
(Something I never do, I'm usually the one who loves to help)
I know every day that I am blessed beyond measure & there are so many others who have harder roads to travel, so I don't mean to sound pathetic, I hope whomever reads this knows how hard it is for me to ask for help & I wouldn't if it wasn't truly needed.
The money that is raised will go towards my medical bills, prescriptions, travel expenses, & lost wages
