Alger's fire disaster fundraiser

On the night of November 20 my dad was woken up by his dog Chief frantically barking. He went to investigate and found black smoke pouring from an electrical outlet in the wall between his shop and living room. He tried to put the fire out but quickly realized that it was beyond hope. After watching his entire life’s work burn for 40 minutes, the volunteer fire dept. arrived. He was blessed to get out of the building alive.

The loss includes his home and shop, all of his clothes and personal belongings, generations of guns in a melted safe, fishing rods and gear, a life long of pictures, a big game trophy collection, 4 vehicles, all of his tools, 3 four-wheelers, 3 snow machines, a boat, 2 rafts, all of his saddles and tack, wall tents, and camping gear. Basically everything he’s worked his entire 59 years to collect.

The life that he lives on our reservation is different than the life most of us live. Fire insurance is virtually unaffordable due to the lack of a full time fire dept in the area and no fire hydrants or sprinklers.

Those of you that have spent time with my dad know how great his heart is. He has taught countless young men, myself included, his trade of carpentry. He has worked his entire life towards a dream of retiring on the Blackfeet Reservation, where he was born. Over the last few years he has a enjoyed showing people around the reservation and taken great pride in making sure everyone had a great experience while in his care.

We are looking for donations to be used to build him a new home and shop this spring. The guns and gear for an outfitter are priceless, as well as all of the memories made with them, but we also have to attempt to replace those belongings to continue and create the many memories we all cherish with my dad. Anything you can provide will help my dad, and our family, for many generations to come. We appreciate your contributions more than words can describe, and the Swingley Family thanks you. God bless you all.
