Selinsgrove Intermediate Band

Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School Band is struggling with a lack of funding to purchase instruments to lend to students from less fortunate families.

As owner of Vivace Music Center, I've offered to sell instruments at-cost (no profit to me), and they are still financially unable to purchase any.

When I was a kid in elementary school, I wanted to play an instrument. My mother was unable to afford to rent or purchase an instrument, but luckily the school I attended own several instruments they were able to lend to students, so I played a school-owned bass.

Eventually, my family realized I was musically talented, and my grandparents purchased a bass and an alto saxophone for me. I did not have a very good childhood (my mother was in a marriage with a very abusive person). Being involved in the music program - having rehearsals before and after school meant less time at home.

I was heartbroken to hear the school had to turn away students from band due to a lack of funding. So I decided to set up a monthly concert series at my music store with all net proceeds donated to the music program and I decided to put up this page to try to raise funds.

The first concert was December 13th. Dr. Ilya Blinov, a music professor from Susquehanna University performed Tchaikovsky's, "The Seasons," on piano.

The next couple concerts will be:

January 10th: Flute Trio (Amy Kenny, Leslie Cullen, & Reuben Councill)

February 14th: Soprano (Brandy Vasey)

March 13th: Piano (Justin Aurand)

Tickets are $18.00 a piece and include a reception with food and drinks from 6:00 - 6:45 PM and the concert from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.

If you are able to attend the concerts, tickets are available in the store or from our website. If you are unable to attend, please consider donating to this cause. Music has so many benefits - increasing test scores, improving self esteem, increased capacity for memorization, refinement of fine motor skills, etc.

Imagine if I had been turned away from music as a child if my school didn't have the funding to have school-owned instruments. I may not have developed such a passion for music, my childhood would have been much worse, and I really doubt I would have opened up a music store!

I am willing to sell $10,000 in instruments at cost to the school, and that is my fundraising goal.
