Hi my name is Amanda Morten and my family and I are walking from Mexico to Canada to raise money for Teen mental health.
For a non- profit organization called Cody's House
Our journey starts April 20th 2017, in just a few weeks my husband Larry and I will be starting at the Mexican border and hiking through the desert then high sierras. Our 16 year old daughter Heaven-Lee will be joining us right after exams at the end of June in Northern California.
We chose to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, as it is known to be one of the hardest mental and physical hikes. This is where I thought it be the best to put our mind through tough challenges, we may never have been through. The PCT is a 2,658.9 mile trail that starts at the Mexican Boarder and goes through California, Oregon and Washington ending in B.C Canada. We will be crossing part of the Mojave Desert and embark on high snow in the Sierras. We will be reaching elevations of 14,505 feet high. This takes 6 months to complete.
Why???? To help our teens today. I wanted to do something bigger and harder then just a daily race, or fundraiser event. I want to make an impact I want it to be hard.
This is Cody, he was just 17 when he took his own life. Cody was a wonderful teen who seemed to enjoy life and help others. When Cody needed help, his community didn't offer anything that could help him in time. Since his passing Ken and Kari Smith (Cody's Parents) have opened a non- profit organization called "Cody's House" in Barrie, Ontario which offers many services to any teen in any area, needing the help. At this time they only have a temporary set up. My family has decided to do a long distance hike to raise money and awareness for teen suicide and mental health. To help them build and open up a permanent home for "Cody's House"
Our Goal is to raise $20,000 for Cody's House- Health & Healing Centre for Teens. We want to help these teens get a permanent location to run Cody's House. It is not only important to raise money but to raise awareness in our community, across Ontario and the United States. Our friends, family and sponsors will be able to follow our trip through our blog posts and YouTube videos. You will get to see first hand what the trail looks like and the different challenges we will have to overcome on our journey.
The need for places like Cody's House is so important. We have a significant rise in the teen suicide rate over the last decade and it is heartbreaking. We need this to STOP! We need to help these young adults get the help they deserve. They need to know they matter!
Cody's House will be offering many services to help youth learn how to manage their anxiety, help depression and heal different situation that they are facing. Cody's House will teach natural healing techniques such as meditation, taping, yoga, music, exercise and healthy cooking classes. They will be teaching the importance of talking about what triggers anxiety and how to learn to recognize when they need help. There will be peer helpers and counselling, both one on one and group. Cody's House representatives will be reaching out to youth in their schools by doing talks and raising awareness.

These kids don't want to die, they just want the pain to go away! Cody's House will help them do that!
