Come on everyone, lets cowboy-up (and cowgirl-up), donate and help Eddie get to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona to help save his life!
A team of 23 Hematology/Oncology (blood/cancer) Specialists studied his case for a full 3 days straight and came to the conclusion he has a BRAND NEW BLOOD ILLNESS or possibly even a new form of CANCER that is not currently known to doctors or Medical Science! This is a life threatening issue because he constantly develops blood clots that move to his heart and lungs and he's had 3 mini-strokes. If you've ever had a blood clot move or had a heart attack or stroke or know anyone that has had one of these.....you'll understand the SEVERE pain he is always in and how dangerous it is! He has a hard time even breathing, especially when walking because his blood is so thick it doesn't move thru his body like it should. Most medication including blood thinners do not work on him so doctors are stumped on how to help him. The Mayo Clinic is NOT an "in-patient" facility which means they do not have rooms or beds.....this is why he needs the financial help to get to the Mayo Clinic!
The doctors at the Mayo Clinic want to do Medical Testing and Studies on him for 14 days! The cost of the medical studies and testing are being donated by the Mayo Clinic since they want and need to study him, but he has to raise enough money for travel, motel and food expenses. Let's get him down there!
Most of the community knows him as the “bird guy” because he was a falconer (trained hawks, eagles, owls and falcons), has worked with most of Utah's Wildlife as a previous wildlife rehabilitator, raises parrots and was also an EMT and a Paramedical Examiner here in our town. Many of you have also received a body piercing from him and/or a tattoo when he owned and worked at Diversity. Doctors made him stop working because of this new illness.......he is super popular and very well liked in the community and has a wicked sense of humor which will make your jaw sore and your sides ache from laughing so hard.
It's sad to hear, but he often jokes that he wishes he had a full blown known form of cancer! When asked why, his reply is "because at least a cancer patient has a diagnosis and they have treatment options like chemo and radiation in most case; I'm not so lucky. Doctors don't know what I have, therefore they cannot offer me treatment so I'm always sick and in pain".
Eddie's records and a referral were sent to the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) here in Utah after they received a HUGE MULTI MILLION DOLLAR GRANT specifically to study new cancers and new blood diseases. HCI REFUSED to see Eddie because he has no insurance. When they were questioned about the grant which covers his testing and being studied, they refused to answer and now will not return emails or phone calls! Matt Gephardt from Channel 2 News has a segment called "Get Gephardt" where he looks into certain aspects of our daily lives and crooked businesses. Mr. Gephardt has been sent an email about this to see if he can get some answers but we have not heard back from him yet.
