Dominic Noah's Journey

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Katie and I am a single mom of 3. My youngest is Dominic Noah. Dominic was born on May 12, 2014 weighing 1lb 3ozs. He has had a very rough start in life and has defeated all the odds against him so far. I almost lost him when he was 10 days old due to a infection that preemies are in danger of getting called NEC. That night was the worst night of my life. To see your babys body blue and the nurses telling you to say good bye and feeling helpless to save your child, no parent should ever go through that. To this day I still cry at the thought that I almost lost him. I had him baptised in the early morning hours that day and prayed that God would heal my son and not take him from me. He hadn't even opened his eyes yet. The doctor came in a few hours later and said he wanted to try to do a procedure. A surgeon came in and put a drain in both sides of Dominics stomach to try to drain the infection. They put him on multiple antibiotics and the drain helped some. He improved slowly and the infection went away. He ended up getting a few more infections after that. He has had 6 surgeries so far and multiple procedures done. He has had PDA surgery to close a valve in his heart. Laser eye surgery due to ROP, hernia surgery due to 2 inguinal hernias, gtube surgery because he can not eat by mouth due to the fact he aspirates the milk into his lungs. He has severe lung disease and has been on oxygen his whole life. He came home on Halloween and was home for barely 5 weeks when in the middle of a feed he started throwing up and I knew something was wrong. I took him into the emergency room where they decided to admit him. At first the doctors thought he just had an infection, but by the next day he had gotten worse. He was still throwing up and had a fever with a distended belly. His surgeon decided to take him into the operating room and open up his stomach and see what was going on, without knowing why he was so sick. Dominic had a bowel obstruction with an internal hernia that the doctor had to remove some of his intestine and reattach the healthy intestine together and repair the hernia. It was a serious complicated surgery and they decided to keep my son intubated with a breathing tube to help him breath because his stomach was so big it was pushing up against his lungs. He should of recovered and been home a few weeks later, but because they had kept him intubated and with his lung disease, he could not breath on his own when they tried to take him off the breathing tube twice. They had kept him sedated for over 6 weeks with the breathing tube in. On January 2, 2015 my son had a trach put in. To this day he is still in the hospital and my family and I are working on getting him home. Taking classes to learn to care for him at home with oxygen and a ventilator. It has been a rough time for my family, emotionally and financially. My car has broken down and it cost more to repair then the car is worth. My apartment has windows that do not close all the way and the owner refuses to fix them. I have to have electric heaters on 24/7 to keep it semi warm in my apartment. My sons crib is in the living room because he doesn't have his own room and I was told I can not have him in my room with home care nurses. I have no room for all his medical supplies. My son is a happy, beautiful boy and he has had a rough life as it is. I want to make it better for him. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
