Ismail Shabazz Defense Fund

Donation protected
This past June, 2015, Local Education and Civil Rights Activist Ismail Shabazz was aressted in Kingston NY, on charges of illegally selling firearms. The 60 year old Shabazz, past president of the Ulster County NAACP, an advocate working to keep kids in school, and out of jail, was held in the Ulster County Jail, for over a week while his friends and supporters struggled to build a network and find a lawyer.

Well known Civil Rights Lawyer Michael Sussmen has taken the case, at a reduced rate of only $20,000, and Sussman also posted the bail bond to get Ismail out, so they could begin to work on hios defense. The total owed Sussman is $26,000 including the bail bond, a fee that will not be refunded.
$3800 has been raised so far. we have $22,2000 to go.

I am a neighbor and good friend  of Shabazz's and I worked with him when I was an office,r and then president of the local PTA. He is a beloved friend of my family, and a voice of truth and justice in my community.

I have seen first hand, and heard the testimony of parents, police and even Judge Donald Williams, that Shabazz has worked long and hard as a peace keeper in this community. When a KKK member from New Jersey came to Kingston to try and foment unrest and violence, Judge Willams credits Mr. Shabazz with de-escalating the situation. I know he has kept kids in school and off the street for decades.

In the words of Activist , Kaya Tama Bell
" Ismail Shabazz has been instrumental in bringing our Youth encouragement and hope-if you falsely accuse and illegally take him away, what message does that send to the very same youth he counseled? He counseled many in our community that if we are respectful of the law, and that if we work hard to be on the right side of right, that we would see Justice-But now someone is trying to destroy what He/We try to build:."

Please help. We will be so grateful to keep this man home with his grandchildren. He is a beloved elder; we need his wisdom and his voice must not be silenced.
