Cynthia Evon Hanson, or Cindy Lou, aged 62, died on July 5th, 2019 in the comfort of her home in scenic Flagstaff, Arizona. She bravely lost her 14 month-long battle with metastasized lung cancer, due to complications with dozens of brain tumors.

Cindy was born June 24th, 1957 in Texas City, to parents Gloria Monette and Harry Lavern Smith. Cindy, a lifelong Christian, loved her family, animals, the color purple, and peanut m&ms.

Her celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on August 3rd at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church, in Frisco, TX.

From her daughter:

Unfortunately, when someone dies of cancer, they leave behind massive amounts of medical debt, funeral costs, and other unexpected expenses, entirely for their spouse, in this case, my father Roger Hanson. As if cancer and grief aren't enough, he is now faced with more financial trouble.

Some facts on medical debt: Usually, the estate of the deceased person is responsible for paying those debts. The estate consists of the deceased person’s property, and the estate’s executor is responsible for paying off debts out of the estate. The executor will use any available cash to pay creditors. If the estate doesn’t have enough cash, the executor will sell the estate’s property to use the proceeds to pay those bills. Any person who cosigned the deceased person’s accounts could be responsible for paying those joint debts. Another exception would be for residents of the community property states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. In these states, spouses are responsible for paying each other’s debts if one dies first.

Life insurance policies are hard to acquire when diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, your donations will aid the Hanson family while they await the funds from the modest policies she had, and help pay for the outstanding medical bills, and funeral costs that are to be paid out of her (non-existent) "estate".
