<div>Iris is a 5 ½ year old American Staffordshire Terrier.

<div>In 2023 she was taken in as a Welfare Rescue by Police from a house
</div>
<div>where she was used solely as a breeding dog. Her ears had been cut
</div>
<div>off, she had a prolapsed uterus, and she had pressure sores on her
</div>
<div>ankles.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She was moved to Kennels and eventually was on her way to the Carla
</div>
<div>Laine Animals In Need (CLAIN) rescue centre, where she was looked
</div>
<div>after and placed in Foster Care until she could be permanently rehomed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In September 2024, Mum and Dad were looking for a companion for
</div>
<div>their other rescue dog Rocco, a Mastiff, and came across Iris at CLAIN.
</div>
<div>Rocco and Iris got on so well, Iris became the newest family member the
</div>
<div>next week.
</div>

</div>
<div>Over the past 10 years, Mum and Dad have taken in 7 rescue dogs.
</div>
<div>Mainly large, old dogs, many with problems, and have loved every one
</div>
<div>of them, but constantly stumbled with getting sufficient cover from pet
</div>
<div>insurers for these lovely animals who deserved all the care and love they
</div>
<div>could get. None of them have had a good start, and Mum and Dad
</div>
<div>ensure they need never suffer again.
</div>

<div>Pet Insurance is always difficult with Rescue animals:
</div>
<div>Rescue dogs are not always puppies, and very often come with previous
</div>
<div>conditions, and newly diagnosed conditions identified by the Rescue
</div>
<div>Centre Vet screening checks.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Pet Insurer’s do not consider that you have rescued an animal in need,
</div>
<div>and that you have had no opportunity to identify a new condition as it
</div>
<div>arises. Pet Insurers use the clause on Pre-existing Condition and
</div>
<div>therefore anything related to it at any future time means you cannot
</div>
<div>claim cover from an insurer.
</div>

</div>
<div>Iris had a slight twinge in her Left (rear) knee, and in a very short period
</div>
<div>of time, was walking normally. 6 months later she developed a limp in
</div>
<div>her Right rear leg.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This resulted in her needing Surgery to treat ligament damage,
</div>
<div>meniscus damage, and tibial growths, requiring a TPLO.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our insurers will not cover the Right leg as there was mention of a pre-
</div>
<div>existing condition in her Left leg.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On further examination, she now also requires the same surgery on her
</div>
<div>Left Leg.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Surgery and subsequent requirements cost approximately £5000
</div>
<div>per leg. Mum and Dad need to raise funds for Iris’ surgery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If Go Fund Me is successful and raises beyond the costs, any further
</div>
<div>balance will be paid to CLAIN, where they got Iris from, and Pet Blood
</div>
<div>Bank, where Iris is now a Donor. These places are not as well-known as
</div>
<div>some other animal charity-funded services, and don’t get as much
</div>
<div>publicity, but they provide a vital service for animals in need.
</div>
