<div>tudo começou no dia 18 de agosto de 2024, até então o Afonso era um menino saudável que praticava desporto e tinha uma independência e uma

<div>vida completamente normal para a idade dele.

<div>​O que começou como um mal-estar comum — dois dias de vómitos e o cansaço típico de uma virose — transformou-se num abismo num abrir e fechar de olhos. Naquele domingo, o Afonso acordou sem forças. Não conseguia andar. O corpo, antes cheio de energia, estava a render-se a algo invisível e devastador.

<div>​O Voo pela Vida

<div>​No Hospital de Faro, o cenário tornou-se crítico: uma convulsão, seguida de uma paragem cardiorrespiratória. O Afonso foi estabilizado, mas o diagnóstico exigia uma urgência que a logística local não conseguia suprir. Entre a avaria de uma máquina e a angústia da espera, a solução foi um voo de helicóptero para Lisboa.

<div>​Enquanto o Afonso cruzava os céus em busca de socorro, os seus pais cruzavam o país por estrada, num trajeto feito de lágrimas, orações e um nó no peito que o tempo ainda não desfez.

<div>​O Inimigo sem Nome

<div>​Ao chegarem à Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos (UCIPED) do Hospital de Santa Maria, a gravidade revelou-se por inteiro: Meningoencefalite.

<div>​O Afonso, que horas antes brincava, estava agora em estado convulsivo. Foram feitos todos os exames. Amostras foram enviadas para a Alemanha. Investigou-se cada possibilidade. Mas a ciência, por vezes, é silenciosa: o único rasto encontrado foi o vírus Influenza B. Até hoje, não há um diagnóstico fechado que explique tamanha agressividade.

<div>​A Nova Realidade: O Amor que Tudo Sustenta

<div>​A vida do Afonso é agora uma batalha silenciosa e constante. Onde antes havia correria, hoje há:

<div>​Uma traqueostomia que se tornou o seu canal de respiração.

<div>​A imobilidade, com uma tetraplegia que o impede de sentir do pescoço para baixo.

<div>​A nutrição por sonda, enquanto luta por cada pequena evolução na fisioterapia.

<div>​O Afonso é hoje o rosto da dependência total, mas também é o rosto de um amor que não conhece limites. Ele depende dos seus pais para cada movimento, para cada respiração, para cada cuidado.

<div>​Um Caminho que Não se Faz Só

<div>​Esta "caminhada", como a família lhe chama, começou naquela unidade de cuidados intensivos e continua hoje, em casa, no hospital, nas salas de fisioterapia. É uma história de dor, sim, mas é sobretudo uma história de esperança e resistência.

<div>​O Afonso precisa que a sua história seja ouvida. Ele precisa que o seu caminho seja iluminado pela solidariedade de quem entende que a vida pode mudar para todos nós, num domingo qualquer.

<div> The History:

<div>It all started on August 18, 2024. Until then,  Afonso was a healthy boy who played sports and had independence and a completely normal life for  a boy of his age.
What began as a common illness— two days of vomiting and the typical fatigue of a virus — rapidly turned into a nightmare, in the blink of an eye. That Sunday, Afonso woke up without any strength. He couldn't walk. His body, once full of energy, was surrendering to something invisible and devastating.

<div> Flight for Life: 
</div>
<div>At Faro Hospital, the scenario became critical: a seizure, followed by a cardiorespiratory arrest. Afonso was stabilized, but the diagnosis required urgency that local logistics could not provide. Between a machine breaking down and the anguish of waiting, the solution was a helicopter flight to Lisbon.
While Afonso was crossing the skies in search for help, his parents were crossing the country by road, on a journey filled with tears, prayers and a knot in their  on their chest ad stomach that time has yet to undo.

 The Nameless Enemy:
When they arrived at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (UCIPED) at Santa Maria Hospital, the severity was fully revealed: Meningoencephalitis.
Afonso, who had been playing hours before, was now in a convulsive state. All exams were carried out. Samples were sent to Germany. Every possibility was investigated. But science is sometimes silent: the only trace found was the Influenza B virus. To this day, there is no definitive diagnosis that explains such aggressiveness.

<div> The New Reality: 
</div>
<div>The Love that Sustains Everything:
Afonso's life is now a silent and constant battle. Where there used to be a rush, today there is:
A fan that ensures the breath of life 24 hours a day.
A tracheostomy that became his breathing channel.
Immobility, with quadriplegia that prevents him from feeling from the neck down.
Tube nutrition, while fighting for every small evolution in physiotherapy.
Afonso is presently the face of total dependence, but he is also the face of a love that knows no limits. He depends on his parents for every movement, for every breath, for every care.
A Path That Cannot Be Followed Alone
This "walk", as the family calls it, began in that intensive care unit and continues today, at home, in the hospital, in the physiotherapy rooms. It's a story of pain, indeed, but it is mainly a story of hope and resistance.
Afonso needs his story to be heard. He needs his path to be illuminated by the solidarity of those who understand that life can change for all of us, on any given Sunday.
There is no prognosis, there are no answers, there is nothing but a lot of faith and strength. We fight every day in search of an answer, if not a treatment, an alternative.
All the help given  will  allow us to pay for  Afonso´s  therapies (physiotherapy, speech therapy, amongst others), get help in purchasing an adapted car to transport Afonso to and from  therapies and doctor´s appointments.

Afonso has his whole life ahead of him! Please help us  get Afonso all the treatment he needs to allow him to live as comfortable as possible.
