<div>En juin 2025, j’ai été hospitalisé d’urgence à l’Hôpital de Maisonneuve-Rosemont, après une dégradation soudaine de mon état de santé. <strong>Les examens ont révélé que je souffre de calculs rénaux (« pierres aux reins ») et d’une maladie rare au niveau de l'estomac</strong>. Les médecins ont déjà procédé à une intervention chirurgicale d’urgence dans mon estomac pour me sauver la vie. Il est possible que je subisse d’autres opérations dans les prochaines semaines.

<div>Le plus grand choc, c’est d’avoir découvert que <strong>mon assurance médicale, liée à mon statut d’étudiant étranger, a été suspendue en raison de mon exclusion de mon programme d’étude</strong>. Me voilà aujourd’hui gravement malade, sans couverture médicale, dans un système où les soins sont extrêmement coûteux pour les non assurés. Bien que je sois incapable d’acquitter ces frais médicaux pour le moment, je suis extrêmement reconnaissant de pouvoir continuer à être soigné convenablement.

<div>Selon les estimations du service de perception de l’hôpital, <strong>les frais médicaux seront au minimum de 35 000 dollars </strong>canadiens et il est fort probable qu’ils soient encore plus élevés. C’est une somme que je suis incapable d’assumer seul, surtout dans ma situation actuelle. Je fais donc appel, avec toute l’humilité d’un homme en détresse, à votre générosité et votre bienveillance.

<div>Je suis père de famille et mes deux jeunes enfants vivent actuellement en Haïti avec leur mère. Je suis installé à Montréal depuis environ deux ans grâce à mon permis d’étude. Je suis venu poursuivre des études de maîtrise dans le cadre d’un projet de vie et professionnel qui me tient à cœur depuis mon adolescence. En hiver 2025, j’ai dû interrompre temporairement mes études pour une urgence familiale : ma femme devait subir une opération chirurgicale majeure, et j’ai décidé d’être à ses côtés. J’ai donc fait une demande officielle d’absence auprès de la direction de mon programme, conformément aux règles de l’université.

<div>Comme je viens d’une région isolée d’Haïti dans laquelle la connexion à internet est extrêmement instable, je n’ai pas pu garder le contact de manière continue avec l’université québécoise où j’étudie. À mon retour au Canada, en avril 2025, prêt à reprendre mes études, j’ai malheureusement appris que j’avais été exclu du programme. Je me préparais à contester cette exclusion, fondée sur des motifs incohérents, lorsque mon état de santé s’est rapidement détérioré. Souffrant, je ne suis pas arrivé à m’adresser aux instances universitaires compétentes avant de m’écrouler et d’être hospitalisé d’urgence.

<div>My name is Jerufranc VEUS, a foreign student in a Quebec university. Today, I'm asking for your help because I'm gravely ill.

<div>In June 2025, I was rushed to the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital after a sudden deterioration in my health. <strong>Examinations revealed that I was suffering from kidney stones and a rare stomach disease.</strong> Doctors have already performed an emergency surgery in my stomach to save my life. I may undergo further operations in the coming weeks.

<div>The biggest shock was discovering that <strong>my medical insurance, linked to my status as an international student, has been suspended due to my exclusion from my study program.</strong> Here I am today, gravely ill, without medical coverage, in a system where care is extremely expensive for the uninsured. Although I'm unable to pay these medical expenses at the moment, I'm extremely grateful that I can continue to receive proper care.

<div>According to estimates from the hospital's collection department, <strong>medical expenses will be a minimum of 35,000 Canadian dollars, and most likely even higher.</strong> That's a sum I can't afford on my own, especially in my current situation. <div>I am a father and my two young children currently live in Haiti with their mother. I've been in Montreal for about two years on a study permit. I came to pursue a Master's degree as part of a life and a career project that has been close to my heart since I was a teenager. In the winter of 2025, I had to temporarily interrupt my studies for a family emergency: my wife had to undergo a major surgery, and I decided to be at her side. I therefore made an official request for an academic leave to my program director, in accordance with the university's rules.

<div>As I come from an isolated region of Haiti where the Internet connection is extremely unstable, I was unable to maintain continuous contact with the Quebec university where I study. When I returned to Canada in April 2025, ready to resume my studies, I unfortunately learned that I had been excluded from the program. I was preparing to contest this exclusion, based on incoherent grounds, when my state of health rapidly deteriorated. Suffering, I was unable to contact the relevant university authorities before collapsing and being rushed to hospital.
