<div>In Jan 2025, we hit the ground running and registered as a charity foundation in The Gambia, plus signed an MoU with The Department of Parks and Wildlife Management (DPWM) to start making positive changes, mostly for displaced wildlife in their care, but also the entirety of the countries wildlife and protected areas – which are disappearing at an alarming rate.

<div>Our first project is a HUGEEEEE one! We are transforming Abuko from a derelict zoo with terrible welfare &amp; high death rates; in to a welfare focused Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehabilitation space!
</div>

<div>Since we started, we've already made some HUGEEE changes:

<li>Repaired broken enclosures
</li>
<li>Provided large water basins in all enclosures
</li>
<li>Replace underground plumbing &amp; borehole pumps, with an extra tank, to improve water supply
</li>
<li>Installed trap doors to ensure staff safety when entering enclosures
</li>
<li>Drastically improved animal health across the board
</li>
<li>Successfully rehabiliated and released a range of species
</li>
<li>Began thorough staff training in all areas, from basic animal care, reptile rescue, colobus monitoring, firstaid and more
</li>
<li>Vaccinated the entire team against rabies
</li>
<li>and soooo much more!

<div>- <strong>Large and improved hyena bush enclosure</strong>: to include all aspects of bush enclosure construction including dens, pools, enrichment and high security fencing.

<div>- The then empty hyena enclosures at Abuko to be transformed in to <strong>better equipped primate enclosures</strong> to allow for smaller troops, isolation, orphans and separation of species
</div>

<div>- A<strong> primate bush enclosure</strong> for pre release rehabilitation
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>- <strong>Better enclosures for long term residents</strong> that are unsuitable for release to the wild (eg illness, mental capacity, human bond)

<div>- Renovating the <strong>volunteer housing </strong>at Abuko
</div>

</div>
<div>- <strong>Veterinary supplies </strong>and further nutritional supplements
</div>

<div>- <strong>Vaccinating staff </strong>on the ground against rabies and tetanus
</div>
