<div>My name is Mateo Aristizabal, and I am reaching out with a hopeful heart to ask for your support. My beautiful nephew, Solomon Aristizabal, has been fighting a battle no newborn should have to face, and my brother Johan and sister-in-law Dayana need our help more than ever.

<div>On October 25, 2024, Solomon entered the world, bringing pure joy to his loving parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. From the moment he was born, he was deeply cherished. However, just days after his birth, everything changed in an instant. Routine newborn screenings at the hospital revealed something devastating—Solomon’s white blood cell count was dangerously low. Doctors soon confirmed a life-altering diagnosis: Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), a rare condition that meant his tiny body had no immune system to fight off infections, viruses, or diseases.

<div>From that moment on, Solomon’s life became one of isolation. He couldn’t be exposed to people, the outdoors, or even the simplest things we take for granted. His parents immediately took him to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where his cousins had once been treated for the same condition. Weekly and biweekly trips to CHOP became their new normal—endless tests, blood work, and doctor consultations. It soon became clear that Solomon’s only chance at a normal life was a bone marrow transplant.

<div>On January 13, Solomon was admitted to CHOP to prepare for this life-saving procedure. He endured 10 grueling days of chemotherapy, wiping out the little immune system he had left. At the same time, his father, Johan, began the process of becoming his donor. Finally, on January 23, with his mother and father by his side, Solomon received millions of new stem cells from his dad—his best chance at building a strong immune system and living a life outside of a bubble.

<div>Now, three weeks post-transplant, Solomon is finally being discharged. But the fight is far from over. The next 100 days are absolutely critical. During this time, he will need to stay near the hospital in Philadelphia for constant monitoring, as his new immune system develops and he faces risks like infections and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). This means his parents must secure temporary housing in Philadelphia, adding unexpected financial strain to an already overwhelming situation.

<div>Additionally, Solomon requires special care, supplies, and medical equipment—many of which are not covered by insurance. This journey has been unimaginably hard, but we have faith that Solomon will grow into the strong, healthy boy he is meant to be. Right now, Johan and Dayana’s focus needs to be on their son—not on the financial burden this fight has placed on them.

Sus padres lo llevaron de inmediato al Hospital Infantil de Filadelfia (CHOP, por sus siglas en inglés), donde sus primos habían sido tratados por la misma condición. Los viajes semanales y quincenales a CHOP se convirtieron en su nueva normalidad: interminables pruebas, análisis de sangre y consultas médicas. Pronto quedó claro que la única oportunidad de Solomon para tener una vida normal era un trasplante de médula ósea.

<div>El 13 de enero, Solomon fue ingresado en CHOP para prepararse para este procedimiento que salvaría su vida. Soportó 10 días agotadores de quimioterapia, destruyendo el poco sistema inmunológico que le quedaba. Al mismo tiempo, su padre, Johan, comenzó el proceso para convertirse en su donante. Finalmente, el 23 de enero, con su madre y padre a su lado, Solomon recibió millones de nuevas células madre de su papá—su mejor oportunidad para construir un sistema inmunológico fuerte y vivir una vida fuera de una burbuja.
