<div>I have started this GoFundMe to assist a former college classmate whom I met on the campus of North Carolina Central University in August of 1975. This person was very active in college activities while majoring in Political Science, but also found time to be part of the Sound Machine Marching Band of North Carolina Central University, where he was a member of the brass section, playing the trombone. His articulation at NCCU helped him achieve his educational goals, culminating in the completion of his B.A. in Political Science and later his M.B.A. in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2009.

<div>While we lose contact with many after graduating (which is normal), Reginald and I have remained fellow Eagles and friends for almost 50 years.

<div>Over the years, Reginald has been an active member of the workforce, participating in various roles throughout his community. He joined and served on the bench in 2018 as a Judge for the Charles County Orphans' Court in Maryland. During this tenure, he was a member of the Conference of Orphans' Court Judges in 2019 and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

<div>Reginald's time in the workforce allowed him to observe families in all walks of life, particularly during his tenure as a Manager with Food Lion from 2005 to 2007 and as a Field Consultant with 7-Eleven Stores from 2008 to 2013, when he witnessed the rising cost of food.

<div>Reginald created the Kearney Media and Consulting company in 2012 to serve as a platform for connecting the community to available resources and services.

<div>Recently, <strong>Reginald was confronted with a life-changing event that presented a financial hardship. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer.</strong> As you are aware, many families overlook the potential impact of a medical emergency on their overall well-being, both financially and emotionally.

<div>Many people with cancer worry about how they will manage the costs of cancer treatment. Problems managing the cost of cancer care are described as financial hardship, financial distress, financial toxicity, or financial burden. Many families that have a member with cancer worry about how they will pay for the cancer treatment and keep up with their day-to-day costs. Cancer treatment is expensive. Even if you have health coverage, many plans don't cover everything.

<div>There are out-of-pocket costs that many insurance plans require people with cancer to pay. These costs can include premiums, deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance costs. <strong>Reginald has experienced a decrease in income since his diagnosis in April, since he has not been able to work full-time or part-time at all during his treatment that started in June.</strong>
