<div>Our friend Patricia Machado and her family are going through a devastating and life-changing journey.

<div>Paty and her husband, Jim, gifted her parents a dream trip to the U.S.—a time to relax, enjoy nature, and attend a long-awaited family reunion in Montana. Her father, Haroldo Filho, an avid horse lover, was especially excited for the experience.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But during a horseback ride, Haroldo suffered a traumatic fall that caused a severe brain injury. He was airlifted to a hospital in Billings, Montana, where he has remained under intensive medical care since.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>Timeline of Events</strong>
</div>
<div><strong>6/11– </strong>Haroldo is admitted to the ICU in critical condition following a horseback riding accident.
</div>
<div><strong>6/13–</strong> Emergency brain surgery is performed to remove two blood clots. One could not be safely removed due to its location in a sensitive area of the brain. Haroldo remains in a coma.
</div>
<div><strong>6/19–</strong> Haroldo undergoes a tracheostomy and feeding tube placement to increase comfort and reduce the risk of further infections.
</div>
<div><strong>6/20– </strong>Signs of stabilization begin. His infection subsides, his fever is under control, and his blood work improves.
</div>
<div><strong>6/21–24– </strong>Haroldo begins tracking voices with his closed eyes—his first response since surgery. There is slight movement on the right side of his body.
</div>
<div><strong>6/25–</strong> Haroldo is moved out of the ICU and is now breathing on his own. He is stable enough to be medically transferred back to Brazil. He remains in coma and faces a long road ahead.

<div> ✈️ <strong>Transfer Plans &amp; Financial Urgency</strong>
</div>
<div>While the family initially had travel insurance, the coverage has now reached its limit. From this point forward, all expenses, are being paid out of the family’s pocket—including the medical hospitalization, medical transport, and care needs. Every single cent donated helps reduce the heavy financial burden they face on top of the emotional trauma of this event.

<div>The insurance will cover 40% of the medical flight to Brazil. The family has managed to secure most of the remaining amount. Haroldo’s son, Haroldo Neto, will take out a loan for the balance, to be repaid through a cattle auction happening in Brazil next month. Thankfully, Luciola (Haroldo’s wife) will be allowed to accompany him on the flight to Brazil, bringing some comfort to the journey.

<div>Paty will stay behind in the U.S. for now. Her family has decided they will reunite and return to Brazil together at the end of the year.

<div><strong>How You Can Help</strong>

<div>We are raising funds to help cover non-medical and now ongoing medical expenses: extended hospital care, temporary housing, food, transportation, childcare, and long-term rehabilitation. These are no longer covered by insurance, and the family is shouldering all costs in the midst of emotional and physical exhaustion.

<div>Paty e seu marido, Jim, presentearam seus pais com uma viagem dos sonhos aos Estados Unidos — um tempo para descansar, aproveitar a natureza e participar de uma reunião de família muito esperada em Montana. Seu pai, Haroldo Filho, apaixonado por cavalos, estava especialmente animado com a experiência.

<div>Mas durante um passeio a cavalo, Haroldo sofreu uma queda traumática que causou uma grave lesão cerebral. Ele foi levado de helicóptero para um hospital em Billings, Montana, onde permanece sob cuidados médicos intensivos desde então.

</div>
<div><strong>11/06 –</strong> Haroldo é internado na UTI em estado crítico após o acidente a cavalo.
</div>
<div><strong>13/06 – </strong>Haroldo passa por uma cirurgia de emergência no cérebro para remover dois coágulos. Um deles não pôde ser removido por estar localizado em uma área muito sensível do cérebro. Haroldo permanece em coma.
</div>
<div><strong>19/06 –</strong> É realizada uma traqueostomia e a colocação de uma sonda de alimentação, para maior conforto e redução do risco de infecções.
</div>
<div><strong>20/06 – </strong>Começam sinais de estabilização. A infecção começa a ceder, a febre está controlada e os exames laboratoriais mostram melhora.
</div>
<div><strong>21 a 24/06 –</strong> Haroldo começa a reagir levemente a vozes, movendo os olhos sob as pálpebras fechadas — sua primeira resposta desde a cirurgia. Ele também apresenta movimento muito sutil no lado direito do corpo.
</div>
<div><strong>25/06 –</strong> Haroldo é transferido da UTI e passa a respirar por conta própria. Está estável o suficiente para ser transferido de forma segura para o Brasil. Ele continua em coma e ainda terá uma longa jornada de recuperação pela frente.

<div><strong>Transferência &amp; Urgência Financeira</strong>
</div>
<div><strong>Embora a família tivesse seguro viagem, o limite da cobertura já foi atingido</strong>. A partir de agora, <strong>todas as despesas estão sendo pagas do próprio bolso</strong> — incluindo hospitalização, transporte médico e cuidados contínuos. <strong>Cada centavo doado ajuda a aliviar o enorme peso financeiro que a família está enfrentando, além do trauma emocional dessa situação.</strong>
