<div>Hi, my name is Tammy Brown, and I’m reaching out to ask for help on behalf of someone who is more than just a friend—he’s like a son to me. Nico has been fighting for years to stay in the United States legally, but due to an incompetent lawyer, his case is now in serious jeopardy. This is extremely urgent—he has less than a month to file an appeal with the court or he could be sent back to Guatemala, where his life would be in danger.

<div>When Nico was just 8 years old, armed guerrillas stormed his home in Guatemala and held his family at gunpoint, demanding money. Fearing for their lives, they fled to Mexico for five years. But when they returned, it still wasn’t safe. His father urged him to flee to the U.S. with his uncle—and when his uncle eventually returned home, Nico stayed behind to try and build a safer life. He was only 15 at the time, barely spoke the language, and had no understanding of U.S. immigration laws.

<div>Now, years later, the court is telling him he should have filed certain paperwork within one year of arriving—a nearly impossible expectation for a scared child who didn’t even know such requirements existed. Because of that, and despite all the good he’s done since, Nico is being punished for not navigating a system he couldn’t possibly have understood at the time.

<div>He’s already spent over four years and poured so much of his limited resources into paying his current attorney—only to be misled and poorly represented. Now he desperately needs a competent, compassionate immigration lawyer to help him file an emergency appeal and stay in the only place he calls home.

<div>Nico is a kind, intelligent, and creative soul. He teaches music to children, creates beautiful crafts like coconut wind chimes and bamboo flutes, and is married to his loving wife Maria. He’s built a strong and supportive church community around him and gives back in every way he can. But now he needs our support.
