<div>It all began with a vision - sparked by compassion and a calling to serve. My son, Nicolas Angustia, a pre-med student deeply involved in outreach efforts to support homeless individuals and connect them to essential healthcare, felt a pull to take this mission beyond borders. He raised his hand to start an international initiative in a place close to his heart - his late grandfather's, Ney Sanchez, hometown of Enriquillo, Dominican Republic.

<div>Inspired by his great-grandmother "Alba," who still lives in Enriquillo and made a lasting impact on him during a childhood visit, he took the first steps toward launching our inaugural Medical Mission Trip in July 2025. I am proud and honored to join him on this journey as a Family Nurse Practitioner. We will be partnering with United Revival Mennonite Church, a mission-driven congregation, and the Association of Enriquillos United, who have faithfully served this community for many years.

<div>The town of Enriquillo is full of kind, welcoming people, but many face significant challenges when it comes to accessing consistent healthcare. Limited resources often prevent proper medical follow-up. According to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Health, heart disease is one of the leading causes of death - a statistic we are committed to change. In addition, we will focus on critical issues such as malnutrition and failure to thrive in children, which remain a pressing health concern.

<div>Todo comenzó con una visión, inspirada por la compasión y el llamado a servir. Mi hijo, Nicolas Angustia, un estudiante de premedicina profundamente involucrado en iniciativas de apoyo a personas sin hogar y en conectarlas con servicios de salud esenciales, sintió el deseo de llevar esta misión más allá de las fronteras. Levantó la mano para iniciar una iniciativa internacional en un lugar muy cercano a su corazón: el pueblo natal de su difunto abuelo, Ney Sanchez, Enriquillo, República Dominicana.

<div>Inspirado por su bisabuela "Alba", quien aún vive en Enriquillo y dejó una huella profunda en él durante una visita en su infancia, dio los primeros pasos para lanzar nuestro primer Viaje de Misión Médica en julio de 2025. Me siento orgullosa y honrada de acompañarlo en este camino como Enfermera Familiar (Family Nurse Practitioner). Nos asociaremos con la Iglesia Menonita United Revival, una congregación con enfoque misionero, y con la Asociación de Enriquillenses Unidos, quienes han servido fielmente a esta comunidad por muchos años.

<div>El pueblo de Enriquillo está lleno de personas amables y acogedoras, pero muchas enfrentan grandes desafíos para acceder a atención médica constante. Los recursos limitados a menudo impiden un seguimiento médico adecuado. Según el Ministerio de Salud de la República Dominicana, las enfermedades cardíacas son una de las principales causas de muerte, una estadística que estamos comprometidos a cambiar. Además, nos enfocaremos en problemas críticos como la desnutrición y el retraso en el crecimiento infantil, que siguen siendo preocupaciones urgentes de salud.
