<div>Over the past few years, our dad has been dealing with a mix of rare and complicated health issues. He’s been getting great care at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, and we’re really grateful for everything his doctors have done. But even with expert care, we still don’t have clear answers. Progress with treatments have stalled, and there has not been success in managing his extensive and debilitating symptoms, nor in treating his diagnoses.

<div>    •    Giant Cell Arteritis, a rare type of vasculitis that affects blood vessels

<div>    •    Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH), chronic blood clots that cut off the lung’s ability to get oxygen to the blood causing the heart to work harder

<div>    •    Celiac artery dissection

</div>

<div>    •    Ascending aortic aneurysm

</div>

<div>    •    A large right diaphragm eventration

<div>Mayo Clinic specializes in rare and hard-to-diagnose cases, and we hope their team may be able to help progress our dad’s treatment. He has an appointment with the Cardio-Pulmonology team there in July, and is in the process of scheduling with the Vasculitis team as well—but unfortunately, insurance won’t cover it. The appointments, travel, and testing will all have to be paid out of pocket.

He’s also one of the first to step up when other people are going through something—especially when it comes to health.
