After taking a conservative approach to her treatment, which included a multiple-day vet hospital stay, constant monitoring, and various cocktails of medications, it has become apparent that she is continuing to decline.

<div>Maggie has been diagnosed with <strong>IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease)</strong>—a condition where the discs cushioning the vertebrae in the spine have deteriorated, leading to disc herniation and spinal cord compression. This condition causes substantial pain, nerve damage, and eventual paralysis.

<div>My vet informed us that in unfortunate cases like Maggie's, in which the pet does not respond to medication and rest, she <strong>MUST have surgery to continue living a healthy and happy life.</strong>

<div>Having <strong>emergency spinal surgery within the first week of symptoms</strong> can lead to a <strong>90-95% chance of recovery</strong>. That means Maggie would be able to walk again—pain-free and joyful, just like before.

<div>However, the cost is overwhelming. Having already spent over $1,000 this past week on her medical treatment, I am now being quoted $4-5k for an MRI and $8k+ for emergency surgery. <strong>Her medical costs are expected to exceed $13,000.</strong>
