<div>On Sept. 10, The Kansas City Star's parent company McClatchy laid off <a href="https://newsguild.org/mcclatchy-laid-off-40-of-its-unionized-workers-heres-how-local-coverage-will-suffer/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">six of our union members</a>.

<div><br />
</div>
<div>We lost our team of government accountability reporters, journalists who question leaders in Kansas City and suburbs in both Kansas and Missouri.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>At The Star, they have balanced investigating the area's biggest stories — like the Royals and Chiefs stadium negotiations and the FIFA World Cup — while shining a light on the experiences of metro residents.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These journalists have given their energy and empathy to The Star and its readers, and we want to give back to them.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Everything you give will help the laid off reporters maintain financial stability during this abrupt transition.
