My name is Katie. A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with localized young-onset rectal cancer. After a year of treatment (radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery), I found out that my cancer had spread to my lungs and is incurable.<br /><br />I spent much of my career at oncology- and research-related organizations. I dedicated 17 years to the American Cancer Society—13 of those years helping cancer patients understand their treatment options, explore clinical trials, and find local support services. I also collaborated on cancer epidemiology reports at a state cancer register and created trainings for staff at a clinical research organization. Now, I find myself on the other side, needing help as I navigate my own cancer journey.
