He is an amazingly kind, big-hearted, loving person, friend, partner, son, brother, and beloved uncle to us. He was just diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer.

<div>My brother Joseph is one of those rare people who makes life a little brighter just by being in it. To his partner, to me, my children, and to our whole family — he’s our heart. He’s the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, who loves deeply, laughs easily, and always puts others first.

<div>Recently, our world turned upside down. Joseph was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.

<div>As he begins the long and difficult road of treatment, the emotional and physical toll is already enormous. But the financial burden is quickly becoming another heavy weight to carry. Between medical bills, ongoing care, and the loss of income while he’s unable to work, he’s facing mounting stress — the kind no one battling for their life should ever have to face.

<div>Our family is coming together to support him in every way we can, but we can’t do it alone. We’re asking for help — in any amount — to ease some of the financial strain so Joseph can focus on what really matters: healing.

<div>When I first heard the word "cancer" I shut down. It was as if the doors closed and a dense fog rolled in. 2 weeks later and the reality of the situation is slowly setting in. I am going to appointments daily, all with different doctors, and trying to keep my head up as best I can. Truth be told, I've had a breakdown or two. How did I get here? Anyways, my MRI scan of my brain came back negative so thats a huge win in itself. The cancer has spread from my lungs to my neck so that MRI had me worried. The Dr's of Novant Health Charlotte Oncology are discussing the best route to go with treatment. They meet once a week to discuss any stand out cases, kind of like a tribunal. I have an appointment with Charlotte Ear, Nose, and Throat tomorrow to be looked at. Their findings will assist my Dr. in planning my treatment schedule. A lymph node is on or next to my voicebox which is why I'm having such trouble speaking. So now the big question is chemo and then radiation after or radiation then chemo after or chemo and radiation at the same time. Regardless treatment will start next week. When the news broke I immediately felt alone but family, friends and the love of a great partner have truly made a difference. I'm speechless at the outpour of support, in a good way. I will try to post updates every couple of days. I love you all.
